I am running windows xp and I have an ATI All-In-Wonder 128 16mb capture card and I can capture audio and video with the software program from the card in mpeg fine. But, when I want to capture using virtual dub using the huffyyuv codec,i put it in capture mode--load the audio and video decompressers and get the settings the way I want them and start the capture. Now I hear audio during the capture and in the information pane in virtual dub it looks like it's capturing audio too as I can see the data rate and size and everything, but when I play back the avi file I just created it has video but no audio. I am stumped please help me!!!

Open up your Volume Control, File - Properties, switch to Recording
Now make sure the correct input is selected and not muted.

Use the Matroska file format

Are you compressing the Audio?
In ATI TV do you get sound when capturing to AVI?

I have the Ati Aiw 128 with the WDM Wrapper in Win98Se.

Use the Matroska file format

I am using the PCM at 44,000 16mb stereo 172kb/s for the audio. Yes I am able to capture to avi with the ATI software and the audio works fine using that program, it's just Virtual Dub, what's so weird is how I hear the audio during the capture and how it appears Virtual Dub is capturing the audio in the information tab. The output file DOES have an audio track but it's silent. I have tried the obvious which is enabling all the recording channels and making sure they're not muted and making sure the volume is turned up and still nothing. I'm stumped.

I face a similar problem. Perhaps since I changed to a new sound card (Vibra 128). It appears that the sound can only be recorded from the mic. When I use only 'line' there is no sound. However, it seems to pick up from the microphone when enabled.

I have been recording my video tapes for storage on disc, and I noticed after I changed sound card that my volume was ver low. Perhaps this has happened earlier, but now there is no way to confirm.

My sound recording (sound recorder in Windows) works fine. (W98SE)

Any suggestions? Perhaps this can add info to the posts above.

I also use ATI, but my card is the AiW Radeon 7500, a few generations newer than yours. However, if using Virtualdub to capture, that shouldn't matter AFAIK.
I hope this does not insult anyone's intelligence, it is not my intention - this may be so simple that no one thought of it. smile.gif
*In capture mode, Capture ->Settings -> make sure "Capture Audio" is checked.
*Audio->Compression-> make sure you are capturing PCM audio. I suppose it could be that your soundcard does not support some format??? I generally use 22.050kHz 16bit mono when capturing with Virtualdub, mostly because whatever I capture with Virtualdub is about to be compressed anyway, and this setting provides acceptable quality with low file size.
*After capture, normal Virtualdub mode ->Audio->Interleaving-> make sure A/V interleave is checked, and interleave every frame.

Hope this helps.

Thanks
I tried to change the Audio settings, and it worked. I could capture at 44kbs stereo, but not at 11kbs mono, except from the mic.

Perhaps this helps others with similar problems.

Hello,
I have just run into similar problem. Mixer was set right, I could even hear the audio during capture, but there was no sound in the produced AVI.

The problem was - new drivers for my Creative Sound Blaster Audigy!

With the drivers from CD everything worked fine, but with the update from Creative website (AUDDRVPACK_L5_UPT.EXE) the sound was gone.

So if you are using Creative Sound Blaster Audigy stick to drivers from your original CD.
