I am new to capturing in VD, altough i am using it for some time now to edit some movies. This is the problem:
When I press capture avi a scrambled/snowy picture appears instead of nice clean tv picture. When I press source in video I can't see any option to choose Pal, NTSC or whatever. But if I press Tv Tuner in video source I get into the tv tuner property and I can see the source is set to NTSC_M on a dropdown listbox. Sad enough this seems the only option. In the beginning I thought it was VD, so tried other versions. But still nothing...
By the way; i like the idea of this forum and because this is my first post I couldn't find a better way to congratulate you any other way. I hope this one will grow into a very big one. So big that everwicked will regret the hosting he offered you |

I'm no expert on capturing either but this sounds like a driver related problem. Have tried upgrading the driver of your TV card?
Anyway could you please post some more details about your system? Like operating system, tv card, driver version. |

hi dragonfly,
welcome on this board...
this is indeed really strange - don't get me wrong ('cause I assume you already did try) but in case you did not...
because you can open up the TV tuner you must have a wdm-driver model. Did you ever tried to change the source from NTSC_M to PAL in your 'normal' TV-application. This was the way I had to go...
1. I had to enter the right source (cable standard) in my ATI application from Afghanistan (??) to Germany 2. then I was able to select via the tv tuner property my (PAL) standard from a variety of sources 3. and then I recieved the right picture to capture...

Maybe opening your TVcard program (like moretv, wintv32 or so) and closing it BEFORE opening VDub and setting "capture avi" may help.

Thanks for the reply guys. Yes it is weird indeed.
I made some pics of my problem. Maybe you guys will recognize something. I made a page from this becuase i don't know the policy about pictures yet in this forum Pictures
To BaronVlad: I always close my tv program first before i open VD. Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't that's the right way to do it ?
To SillKotscha: I am using DsCaler and I put the option to PAL. I can't have a clear picture if I don't. Strange is that I can watch tv, but cannot get a clean picture in VD.
I have Pinnacle pctv rave capture card. Asus V7700 Geforce 2 Deluxe 64 Mb Windows 2000 Pro I am using the borg Tv drivers, becuase they are better than the pinnacle drivers. i was able to capture via Borgtv, but DsCaler has a better picture. I use DsCaler as my tv program now. I have an Epox 8kha+ motherboard and AMD 1800+ processor ( upgraded from 500 mhz to this one specially for ripping )
If there is more you need to know in order to help me, please tell me.

DScaler uses it's own driver but unfortunatly you can't capture with it. Every time you start DScaler it loads it's own special TV card driver. You may try btwincap. I suggest you keep two install packages of it: v5.2.5 and v5.3.2. The later version allows me to capture in VDub using the WDM Wrapper ( I'm using WinXP; Pinnacle StudioPCTVpro ) and I need v5.2.5 to be able to watch TV using DScaler. Because of the changed internal architecture the v5.3.2 cause the system the hang completely if a second driver ( e.g. that from DScaler ) is loaded. At least on XP you can reinstall and use another btwincap driver without having to reboot. |

Well thank you professor. It almost works! I downloaded v5.3.2 on the btwincap site, but I can't seem to find v5.2.5 on the website. Can you please e-mail me this file. ibaman22@hotmail.com
It is very annoying to restart your computer when using the btwincap switcher. When I open VD I get sound and a picture, but not the picture where I left DsCaler before I closed it.
I hope not to bug you guys with my lack of knowledgr on this matter. |

this is due to the wdm driver... so no problem with you

After you went to capture mode in VDub go to the "Source" part of your video configuration. In the window that then appears must be a button which opens another window in which you can change the channel.
You're able to run VDub and DScaler with the SAME driver version??? Hmm I think I have to go into my sys config again. With btwincap v5.3.2 I can't use DScaler and with v5.2.5 I can't capture correctly.
btw: I sent you v5.2.5. |

Well there is a yes and a no. I only needed the v5.3.2, but I also needed btWincapSwitcher. ( I noticed that it's existence when I was searching for the v5.3.2 ). This small tool changes the driver mode you are using. The only thing is that you have to restart after each change.
i also put it on my site. Get it BtWinCapSwitcher if you don't have it. ( Right click and save target as )
Thanks for the mail professor!

Yes, but I never looked closer at it. I only went to the XviD and OggMux sections when I was there. Thx for the hint. |

I dont know it this will help, but i hed the same kind op picture whan I installed More TV (moreTV.353), more tv is a german video application, that has teletex decoding capabilities and also decodes nagravision and other analogic scrambled tv sytems, but i use it as a regular tv aplication, After obtaining My card parameters and getting them into the program I used to get a picture exactly like the one u r getting until I checked the initialize dll check on the configuration. since then no problem.
I open moretv, get the chanel I want, close moretv, open vdub, get in capture mode and all goes well (except when capturing at 15 fps on XP, but that can be found in another topic)
Hope it helps, |
