I've installed Divx3.11a (and some others) codecs.
I can use mpeg 4.v.4 (fm) with CapTV, Avi_Io, FreeVCR... but whenever i try to use with it VirtualDub, it accepts my configurations and then... procceeds to capture with mpeg 4.v.3 !
Could any kindred spirit clarify this?
Thanks.

I can't clarify what's happening, but my best advice to you is to delete all of your illegal DivX and MPEG-4 codecs and upgrade to DivX 5.0.2. You will be happy you did.

Thanks for your emphatic advise on codecs choice, fccHandler, but i've been capturing either from VHS either from TV (within Win98SE, WinMe and Win2kPro SP3); i've tried out 3.11a, 3.22, 4.12, 5.0 and 5.02 and Xvid -- since the time where there was just one analog video Forum... and i've never achieved as good results (image quality+size of file) as with 3.11a (fast motion). Period.
Now my initial question remains and, if you don't mind, i would much appreciate to collect some pertinent feedback.
Regards.

If you insist on using DivX 3.11a, that's your own business, but the rule is not to discuss illegal codecs here. The reasons for this are explained by ChristianHJW in the first pinned topic of the "Codec Discussion" forum:
http://virtualdub.everwicked.com/index.php...9fa9d9bfdee3f92
I think you should visit Doom9. There is a forum there dedicated to DivX3/4.

I stand corrected and reprimented, fccHandler.
I share the opinion of those (in the very same thread you pinpointed to me) who think that the fact you can use a hammer to commit an illegal action should not preclude anyone from discussing hammers and all the possible uses of them.
While i call your attention to my added statement in the 'codecs' section, i can but realize you are walking over a very thin line, threathning to become a tightrope, on account of your coy policies, and so i'll accept your 'suggestion'-invitation and move on to Doom9 (and 'vcdhelp', etc)... -- after all this is your Forum and a guest should behave or leave.
Bidding you farewell, with regards,

lol .. i was just about starting to like him in his steady fight for this totally outdated codec ( when not being used with nandub of course ).
But we should stick to our policy, its ok to mention those illegal codecs, but we wont allow any major technical discussion or even guides to using it here ....
Like i said in another thread, set mq = 4 manually and use DivX 5 for 1 pass capturing, it will outperform DivX 3.11 ...

Well, hammers are legal (last time I checked)
