Greetings.
I have some screensavers that I really like; however, they run @ 100% CPU usage on my P4 XP laptops; so I don't often run them nor for very long when I do.
I haven't been able to configure ViDub to capture the screensavers when they are running; however, I have configured CamStudio to capture them. Part of the difficulty is that the SSs run @ 100% CPU usage and so do CamStu & ViDub.
Anyway, the captured avi files play back nicely at around 10% CPU usage. One option is to endlessly loop the avi files as screensavers.
It seems the SS conversion freeware can only convert swf files to screensavers. The problem I have yet to resolve is that fullscreen play back of the swf files created from the captured avi files is not completely fullscreen.
Fullscreen play back of flv files created from the captured avi files play back at proper fullscreen.
I would like to find some resolution to this(these) issue(s). |

Capturing full-screen desktop video on XP is pretty brutal on the CPU as the video driver model isn't optimized for it. If VirtualDub's OpenGL capture mode doesn't work on your system, then your next best bet if the screensaver is 3D is to use a program that can hook Direct3D, like FRAPS.
Also, make sure you do not have a password set when you try to record the screensavers. Setting a password causes Windows to switch to a different desktop when the screensaver is running and will prevent some screen capture utilities from working. |

Greetings. Thanks for the reply.
Like I "said", I managed to configure CamStudio to capture the screensavers, so capture (other than ViDub's capture) is in & of itself not the issue. I'll check out FRAPS for sure in any case.
Much to my (pleasant) surprise, I discovered that MPC-HC will (not only) play swf files but will (also) properly play swf files in fullscreen. None of the (freeware) apps designed specifically for swf playback (that I tried) would do that.
Now the problem is none of the (freeware) swf to scr apps (that I have tried) will run properly. My (freeware) anti-virus says the scr created by one of them contains a trojan. I will be submitting that to the A-V company for confirmation. InstantStorm will not even load - launching the exe results in a "critical error" message.
Any (more) helpful replies/insights appreciated. Thank you. Regards. |
