I have an ATI TVwonder(using the beta release of ATiMMC 7.6 w/ drivers), and was able to capture fine... that is until I started playing around with the format, source, and display options on virtual dub.
I set the drivers to a mode that causes virtual dub to freeze(didn't take long). Now, everytime I try to capture in Virtual dub it remembers those settings and freezes immediately. The ATi utility still works fine, but random freezes occur with this software...
I have tried uninstalling virtual dub, removing all mention of virtual dub from the registry, trying different versions of vDub, and also redownloading the newest version... nothing seems to do any good.
Can someone help me out here? I would really love to be able to capture again.
Possibly relevent info: Windows XP SP1 ATI TV wonder (beta 7.6 drivers... the 7.1 drivers dont work in winXP) Geforce3 Ti200 (NVIDiA ref. detonator drivers 30.82) AMD Athlon XP 1700+ (Palimino) Soyo Dragon plus (VIA Kt266a mobo)
I believe vdub rcognizes the card as "M/S WDM image capture(win32)" and under the capture source it lists the "ATI TV Wonder video catpure"

The ATI utility still works because it probably uses its own proprietary methods to communicate with the device. I think VirtualDub uses the VFW AVICap interface and it stores its capture settings in "HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Freeware\VirtualDub." If you have deleted this key and still can't get VirtualDub to work, the only thing I can suggest would be trying different capture programs (not ATI software), just so maybe you can get the driver's settings back to something stable, then try VirtualDub again.

I have an AIW8500DV, I get the same problems trying to capture using anything but ATIMMC, doesn't matter if i't's using VFW or WDM, I think ATi made it that way on purpose, but MMC, as a straight, non filtering (other than it's built in deinterlacer, telecine and visual masking) capture program is the best I've seen so far, as long as you stick to one of the built in MPEG modes or a very, very fast AVI codec.

well, the thing is that i WAS able to capture fine.. i can (and have) used other programs (than mmc) for 2 years... my problem seems to be the microsoft wdm image capture has saved these settings somewhere and I need to reset them.
Can somebody please help me find a way to reset the m/s wdm image capture settings?
I found a guy who used a program called videowave to do this, but they do not offer a free trial, just the full version for several hundred dollars...
