I'm sure I must have done something to cause it....but now no matter what I do..and regardless of the fact that Divx 5.02 is installed and shows as the codec set when capturing...the captured files refuse to load in V-Dub. The exact message I get is..

Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DX50' (Unknown) Virtualdub requires a Video For Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. Directshow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

Why it can't locate a decompressor is the mystery....as I said..the 5.02 codec is installed and looks to be working fine with everything else..so why now won't it load captured files in VD. Help! smile.gif

Tick the "extended options" box when opening the file and set both FourCC codes to "DIVX".

Hi, I am getting the same exact error message.
I am in the same exact situation, since my 5.0.2 codecs are installed (I can see DivX movies with no problem).

Can someone help please?

The suggested solution doesn't work dry.gif

Tick the "extended options" box when opening the file and set the first FourCC to "DIVX", and the second FourCC to "DX50." If still not working, then something must be broken; try reinstalling the DivX 5.0.2 codec.

May the FOURCC be with you...

I have found out, that NimoPack (a popular audio/video en/decoder bundle) build 8 does not correctly register the DivX 5.0.2 encoder.
After installing the Nimo pack you can watch the DivX 5.0.2 movies in medial player, but you cannot use this codec in VirtualDub.

Just download the DivX install from DivX.com and install the DivX bundle.

This worked for me.
