Here are some examples:

This last one was made with 15 iterations

As you can notice the original has a little out-of-focus.

My opinion, FWIW:

I'm against artificial sharpening in general. The original looked fine to me without anything to compare it to; it was only after seeing the sharpened versions that the original looks blurry.

Also, the original seems to compress better tongue.gif

@fcchandler
This source is not meant to be compressed in any way.
The original is in fact out of focus, it is a frame from a defective shot I made some time ago.

QUOTE (Morsa @ Nov 17 2002, 10:24 PM)
This source is not meant to be compressed in any way.

But it was compressed to JPEG, and the original compressed better!

The point I wanted to make is, I wasn't aware that it was out of focus until I saw the artificially sharpened versions.

If the shot is truly "defective" in your eyes, then I agree it should be corrected. (Only the viewer can judge.) To me, it didn't look so bad and I probably would've left it alone.

Question: I believe that most people (including me) use VirtualDub to capture and compress their own videos, or to transcode videos they got from the Internet. How do you use VirtualDub?

I use it most of the time to filter and enhance video.
Sometimes to capture too, but with non-losy codecs.
That´s why I´m always talking about its filtering capabilities!
Remember the drop out filter idea??

Yes, and deconvolution cool.gif

What do you do with your videos after you filter and enhance? Surely you can't store them in their uncompressed format! Do you dump them back to tape or what?

Most of the time it goes back to tape.
I've got a friend who works at a small video post facility.
So he puts my videos in DV format (with a professional VTR) and sometimes I have played with Digibeta with excellent results!!
Nowadays I'm very interested about Vdub as a Video Restorer.
