Hi, need some advise. I have a youtube video MP4 HD720p I successfully converted it to AVI. But when I used VDub to compress the quality is not not that good.

I used latest XVid compression. Any suggestion helpful.

I use Target quantizer =4 in xvid when I saves from mp4 to avi.
This quality suites me. Bitrate of resulting video varies between 5 to 10 Mbits.
I have had problems some time when settings in the quicktime plugin has been wrong. I use the Tateau plugin and uses a value for the Video decoder mode of 3 for mp4. If I run Deshaker on the video I use mode 2 in the quicktime plugin.
Regards

I now see that you already have converted it to .avi before using VirtualDub.
Thus you will have two renderings which will reduce the quality.
Use a quicktime plug in to load the mp4 directly into VirtualDub before saving to .avi
