I'm having an issue with saving my file. I'm using VirtualDub 1.10.4 x64 and trying to save my file with Xvid compression. It's a 30 second clip, and in the export dialog it predicts the file size to be 18808K. I've got 100+ GB free on all my drives (including the one I'm saving to) but not my Windows partition, which has 1.5 GB free. The error message pops up about halfway through the save process.

Here's the process I used:
1. Convert the file to avi using AVFS and Audiosynth
2. Open the file in VirtualDub
3. Video->Filters-> and add Deshaker v3 (Pass 1) with default settings
4. File->Run Video Analysis Pass
5. Video->Filters-> and change Deshaker to Pass 2 with default settings
6. Video->Compression and select Xvid MPEG-4 codec with default settings
7. File->Save as AVI
8. Get the error a quarter of the way through with an expected file size of ~50000K, output file is 9,590 KB
9. Video->Filters and add a x2 size reduction
10. File->Save as AVI
11. Get the error again halfway through, expected size of ~23000K, output file is 9,587 KB
12. Video->Filters and add another x2 size reduction
13. File->Save as AVI
14. Get the error again right before the end, expected size of ~9750K, output file is 9,609 KB

Any suggestions about what I should try next? It'd be nice to be able to handle files bigger than 10MB.

And the questionaire:

1. Does it happen with all video files?
Anything that's long enough to bother watching

2. What version of VirtualDub and/or VirtualDubMod are you using? (The version number is in the top bar)
VirtualDub 1.10.4 x64

3. If you are using VirtualDub, does it also happen if you are using VirtualDubMod? If you are using VirtualDubMod, does it also happen if you are using VirtualDub?
I haven't installed VirtualDubMod.

4. If saving a file in VirtualDubMod, does it have the same problem if you save to AVI, OGM, or MKV?
I haven't installed VirtualDubMod.

5. Does it make any difference if you select a different Video/Audio codec as the compressor?
Nope, it happens with Xvid MPEG-4 and the other codecs I've tried

6. Go to File -> File Information and copy all of the information into the post.

Video:
Frame size, fps (µs per frame): 1920x1080, 29.970 fps (33367 µs)
Length: 885 frames (0:29.53)
Decompressor: Internal DIB decoder (YV12)
Number of key frames: 885
Min/avg/max/total key frame size: 3110400/3110400/3110400 (2688188K)
Min/avg/max/total delta size: (no delta frames)
Data rate: 745750 kbps (0.00% overhead)

Audio:
Sampling rate: 48000Hz
Channels: 2 (Stereo)
Sample precision: 16-bit
Compression: PCM (Uncompressed)
Layout: 22 chunks (1.37s preload)
Length: 1417416 samples (0:29.53)
Min/avg/max/total frame size: 164640/257712/262144 (5537K)
Data rate: 1536 kbps (0.01% overhead)

7. When exactly does the error/problem occur? Openning the file? When you click the Save button? Partway through the save process? At the end of the save process?
Halfway through saving it.

8. What is the EXACT error message? If it just brings up the debug dialog, then say so. Saying, "I got an error." means nothing to anyone.
Not enough space to write additional data

9. What Operating system are you using?
Windows 7 x64

Don't know really, but:

* Can you eliminate Deshaker and still get the error?

* Are you using any other filters?

* Can you open the partial output file and post the info on it?

* Have you watched the output folder during encoding to see if a huge file is being created?

* Again during encoding, is RAM usage maxing out?

* Try with a modern codec like x264, unless you need Xvid for some reason. Xvid very old, it is.

EDIT
Options, Preferences, AVI: confirm "Use 1GB instead of 2 GB..." is enabled.
Also confirm "Superindex entry limit" = 256 and "Index entries per block" = 8192. (these are the defaults, but your registry settings might be corrupt)

I figured it out. AFVS suggests that how you import video from AviSynth is to use Pismo File Mount Audit Package, the folder I imported the video from was (I think) a virtual drive with an extra 10MB of space, and that's the folder I was trying to save to.

I did take your suggestions on using x264 and the "Use 1GB instead of 2 GB..." checkbox. Thank you!

That's great; glad I could help somewhat. I should have suspected AVFS.

I always open Avisynth (*.avs) files in VirtualDub directly, without the need for any virtual file system.

Opening the Avisynth file directly doesn't work for me, but neither does opening the video. AVFS is a workaround I saw people suggest elsewhere on the internet and it seems to work for me, so I think I'll stick to that.
