Can someone please instruct me on how to download video from Google.

I recently followed these instructions : How to Download Video and View It Frame by Frame - How to Use Free Software to Download From the Internet Key Evidentiary Video, and Then View the Video Frame-by-Frame.
By: Max Photon

I have successfully downloaded the three items listed below and I keep them open. i.e., (running in the background)

Vdownloader
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Down...ownloader.shtml

Virtualdub Home: http://www.virtualdub.org/index

Codec. http://movavi.com/codec/mpg4.html

When I right click to copy the URL into Virtual Dub it opens and usually loads most UTube videos ok, but I can’t seem to get a Google video to load in – error message always says invalid URL. Thanks for any assistance P DeGenova

I can't help because I have a question for you. While I can successfully download videos using vdownloader, I don't have a clue how to do it using vdub, and the Help file doesn't tell me where I can enter a URL in vdub to download a video in that program. Is that info in the How to Download Video instructions, and if so where are those instructions?

Regards,

JoeB

There is no way you are going to open any URL in VirtualDub or download videos with it.

@JoeB, what You want?

I'm propose just,
- use (example) keepvid.com site to download FLV or MP4,
- play on PC without conversion,
- if You want convert to AVI (and edit) use VirtualDub with specific input plugin (FLV input plugin / QuickTime input plugin).

And of course...

I didn't think so either, but the following statement by the original poster had me confused:

"When I right click to copy the URL into Virtual Dub it opens and usually loads most UTube videos ok, but I can’t seem to get a Google video to load in – error message always says invalid URL."

That indicated to me that he was saying that he could do it with most UTube videos, and I was wondering how he managed that.

Stephan and other posters I appreciate your input........When I right click to 'copy URL address' of any video that I am accessing from Utube that action usually automatically pops up the VDownloader software window and it starts to download automatically. Then I go to VirtualDub and access the downloaded video. This works fine for all video's except one's labeled 'Google'. Sometimes I have to copy/paste the URL into the VDownloader window. '

Perhaps these instructions (below) that I followed will help to clarify my situation........... I followed these to a tee and it worked for all except - as I say - Google videos.

How to Use Free Software to Download From the Internet Key Evidentiary Video, and Then View the Video Frame-by-Frame.

Welcome,

The purpose of this post is to provide you with essential research tools.

I want to set you up so you can:

1.) Download - not stream, but download - video from the internet, and save it to your hard drive;

2.) Isolate segments of video that interest you, and “trim” the rest (Note: Virtualdub doesn’t really throw away the trimmed video, so your original video is not altered.);

3.) Watch the video frame-by-frame;

4.) Abstract single still photos, or entire image sequences of still photos (and save them to folders).

The problem: The Start/Pause buttons found on typical internet video-viewers are very limited, and do not really allow frame-by-frame analysis.
Real frame-by-frame is a wonder to behold.

Frame-by-frame viewing opens up new levels of awareness in videos we dismiss, largely because we race through them.
Plus, you’ll love it! Frame-by-frame analysis is absolutely captivating. (That’s good.)

A lot of my work is better understood if others are able to look at key videos frame-by-frame.

To these ends, allow me to share with you some instructions for downloading two very useful, free programs.

Vdownloader - to download video from the internet.
Virtualdub - to view downloaded video, frame by frame.

****************************************************
(These instructions are for Window only.)

NOTE: If you do any of the following, (and you have Windows) be sure to first click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Restore > follow simple directions to set a Restore Point.

If anything screws up, you can simply return to that Restore Point.

The following should be quick and easy (like all computer-related tasks).

These are established, popular freeware programs.
I personally have experienced no problems, and have benefited tremendously.

****************************************************

Vdownloader
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Down...ownloader.shtml

Vdownloader is extremely simple freeware that lets one download video from the internet, and convert various formats into AVI format.
Don't worry what AVI is. It is a standard video format, and it is the right format for our very modest purposes.

Basically, once Vdownloader is installed on your computer, simply start the program and let it run in the background.
Search on the internet for video you are interested in.
Then when you want to save a video, simply click on the web address at the top of the browser, then right-click Copy.
(A window pops up - (if not, click on the Vdownloader icon in the lower tray, and the window should appear) - then press Save.)

If that particular video is already in AVI format, you will know because you will be presented with the options of Open or Save. Click Save.

If that particular video you want to save is not in AVI format, then Vdownloader will download the video, and then convert it to AVI.
The download part is relatively fast; the conversion may take quite a while, so don't worry or abort the process.

It makes a lot of sense to download key video for safe keeping.

Plus, it sets you up to be able to watch video frame-by-frame (an incredible tool).

***************

Virtualdub

Now, to view your downloaded video frame by frame, download and install another freeware - Virtualdub.
Here are the general links:
Virtualdub Home: http://www.virtualdub.org/index
General downloads: http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/

Use this link to download the stable, 32-bit version of Virtualdub, as a ZIP file:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/virtual...17.zip?download

Unzip the file and install.

*************

Once Virtualdub is installed, start the program, then click File > Open, and open your desired video.

If you get a window that says something about MP42, codecs, etc, then you need to install a codec, a bit of code that decompresses the AVI video. (Windows doesn't provide the right codec.)

So...there is one last step.

------------------------------

Downloading the codec.

Go to http://movavi.com/codec/mpg4.html

Download the codec.

Unzip the file.

Open the file.

Right-click the file mpeg4fix.inf, then click Install.

If a window pops up about not Microsoft authenticated, click Continue. (Don't worry.)

The codec installs nearly instantaneously.

-----------------------------------------

Now let's try Virtualdub.

Open a video, press the Start button, then press Stop.

Now the slider is activated.

Left and right arrows rewind or advance the video, frame-by-frame.

Right-click the left-hand image to select a zoom size.

Now you are ready to watch video - safely tucked away on your hard drive - frame-by-frame.

For instructions on how to use Virtualdub, try the Help function, and also visit the Virtualdub website and forum.

I hope you find these modest instructions useful and usable.

Ahh, that explains it. Your original post didn't say you were trying to open the URL in Vdownloader, but implied opening it in VDub. Do you have the latest version of VDownloader? That would be version 0.7.

JoeB

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for questions about Vdownloader.
