Hello,
I need to split an avi file in 2 parts, so I searched on google and found VirtualDub. Unfortunatly I can't find any Linux version.... Is someone going to release a Linux version of VirtualDub ?
Or does anyone know any other program running under Linux which could do what I want (split an avi file in 2 parts) ?
Thanks,

Hi,
i hope i dont post nonsense here, but as Vdub does rely on the VfW ( Video for Windows ) interface i guess it will be hard to port it to other OS.
For Linux i know that mplayer and mencoder are two widely used apps for AVIs, 1st is to play them ( as name indicates ) and 2nd to create/edit them. In both the support for every single codec is hardcoded IMHO, so you cant use a general interface like VfW or ACM for teh creation of your movies.
Both are to be found at http://www.mplayerhq.hu
For the future the gstreamer project should be mentioned at http://gstreamer.sourceforge.net or http://sf.net/projects/gstreamer as it may be the future 'DirectShow' for Linux one day, maybe providing something similar to VfW also ?
-------------------- Visit the unofficial Virtualdub support forum on http://forums.virtualdub.org - help to reduce the big number of emails Avery Lee is getting every day !! Support matroska as container and Gstreamer as the only truely open, x-platform multimedia platform .... |
