I don't worry about it either, but that ain't the point. We forbid discussion of downloaded movies to protect our forum from, er, unwanted attention. This is a public place. You can do anything you want in private, as far as I'm concerned.

Well,
Sorry for creating all these strong arguings. On the other hand, it's really interesting to read. Difficult to answer to all points raised here.
But one thing remains for sure.
The french laws explicitly provides with the right of making private copy. Everytime we purchase a recordable DVD or CD, we pay a tax for this right that's returned to the SACEM (the french RIIA). Whatsoever the disclaimers of the copyrighters are, a statement prohibiting private copy has no value in France (we say "clause léonine"). In other countries, it may have.....but not in France. And I'm leaving in France, I'm subject to french laws, not US ones. We all know about things that are legal in one country and illegal in another one.
Even better: One or two month ago, a guy was on trial because he had downloaded 500 movies. I say 500..... He has been simply discharged by the court, because he was doing a private use of these copies.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's fair, I don't recommend doing that, I'm not encouraging piracy.
fccHandler, I agree with you, it's not the right place to discuss this. However, just to prove my good faith, I'll be delighted to send you a short extract, let's say 2 minutes, of this movie.
Regarding the subtitles, you're right again, it's questionnable. But this DVD was never released in France and considering the source, it's rather the work of an individual, and not copyrighted.
Till soon Jean-Pierre |

Is there a country where this it NOT the case? I´m quite sure it´s the same in Germany.
