Hiya. I need to distribute video files to an audience that may or may not have quite old computers; there's no guarantee that they'll be able to play AVIs with newer (or any) codecs. Is there a sure-fire format that everyone should be able to play, or am i dreaming? It seems like 90% of video clips that i download end up being mpg, but i'm not sure what version, etc. (filesize is less of an issue than compatibility)
thanks for your time! Kev
p.s. also, do you happen to know of a program that will encode this magical file format? |

magical? it's 14-15years old, where have you been?
i believe "tmpgenc" makes for best mpeg1 quality. and the nice part is that mpeg1 encoding via tmpgenc is freeware.
and yes, mpeg1 is as sure as they get; anybody should be able to play it.
