When you play a media file using Media Player 6.4 (mplayer2.exe), it automatically adds the file to the recent documents list of Start Menu / Documents. Does anyone know how to make Windows Media Player 9 do this?

In my case WMP9 seems to do this already... and i never changed any setting for it or anything... maybe it's something you have to enable in the registry? (don't ask me what though unsure.gif )

It's not a matter of WMP, it's the Explorer. It doesn't keep track of media files only, office and others as well. You'll find it somewhere in the 'History' settings.

Sorry, I can't help you further, I'm using one of those windows translations made by drunken, blindfolded, dope smoking idiots (the typical MS emloyees).

Maybe it' a small return for you great work. I use it every day, during this session more then 30 times!

Somewhere else you said, you keep this work up because of some noisy people.
Well, I haven't benn noisy yet. But wait what happens, if there is a VD 1.6 without MPEG2 by the 4ccMaster!

as I said my smart i4...

I have no idea what terms MS is using in english windows...
I explained that and all sober forum members understood well (I guess).

In their translations MS is using terms you never find in the origiginal language and I was just translating back (Verlauf = history)

Got it?

I've already hunted through all Explorer and IE settings and I haven't found any hidden secrets. I did find (via GPEDIT.MSC) a few options to prevent programs adding files to my Recent Documents list, but none of that stuff is enabled.

I'm convinced that it's strictly a WMP9 policy. As I said, mplayer2.exe has no problem adding media files to My Recent Documents.

As for why I'm using WMP9, right now it serves all my needs and I like its eye candy. smile.gif

You like Windows Media Player 9? Do you use RealPlayer too?

I'd rather be torn apart by wild dogs than use RealPlayer. But yes, I actually like WMP9. biggrin.gif

the only thing i used wmplayer9 for wuz playlists of many video files...it came handy there...(tcmp wasn't so smooth in handling many,MANY files...it would lost overlay from time to time etc.,zplayer doesn't have a gui which would be as fluent in playlists...etc.)
other than that, both wmplayer9 and realplayer are pretty much useless to me....
(and i don't think fcc would use wmp9 if he had the tv-out... tongue.gif )

but window media player 6.4 (mplayer2.exe)
now there's nice and fast player i normally use to checkup files while my tv-out is not on...

although unusable to me,wmp9 *is* eye-candy....
(and if he's making wmv videos, then wmv9 probably is the better choice...)
realplayer is just silly....

@fccHandler

Well, if you start using WMP, why dont try WMP 10.

http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/E...9/MP10Setup.exe

It's sill beta and released for DevCast members. Even so, I hate eyecandy programs and never will use anything with a 'skin', I have to evaluate it.
And... Surprise, all those WMP9 problems (frozen WMP after using Cyberlink DVD, crash of Pinnacle Instant Cinema, if started while WMP was still running and many others) are history. It finally seems to work.
Another point: I have several (INet) clips, where WMP 9 always tried to connect to the Internet (codec download disabled) and after you refused it, it played them anyhow. WMP 10 plays them instatly.

A wide selection of devices are supported, including a host of current portable music players and new Portable Media Center devices that will be available later this year.

But hopefully you don't miss to much of 'eyecandy':
A streamlined and sleek new design delivers a fresh new look and improved ease of use, including faster access to top Player tasks.

After all I forgot the real reason to talk about WMP 10.

You find your recent files in the 'files menue' like Word etc.

But... Don't look for 'Recent Documents'. thats something different (Explorer).

During Setup, when asked for your preferences, you check 'Save History'! (english version).

Many thanks for that info! But I think I'll steer clear of WMP10 until it moves out of beta. Looking forward to it, though...

Yes, WMP9 stores recently opened media in its history (File MRU) and library, if enabled. But that isn't really what I'm after; I want them on my Start menu. It's just a very minor nitpick, since I got so accustomed to the way WMP 6.4 did that.

P.S. By "eye candy" I was referring mainly to the audio visualizations (my favorite is Alchemy: Random). cool.gif
