Greetings,

I'm running XP Sp3 with an Audigy X-Fi Platinum and noticed while using Camtasia Recorder 7 that the only option I have for PCM is 8,000 Khz 16 bit Mono. I also checked a few other programs including the Windows "Sound Recorder" and it also has only this option.

My two other PCs have several mono/stereo options for PCM but for some reason I seem
to have lost options on this PC.

Is there any remedy for this other than reinstalling Windows?

Note:

In the box where you would normally select "CD Quality", "Radio Quality", those options
are gone as well.

Thanks

Well I figured out what it was, it was ffcHandler's AACACM filter (both v1.6 and v1.7).

I removed it from the list of Audio Codecs in "Sounds and Audio Devices" and my settings returned. I reinstalled it using the .INF that comes with it and lost all my stereo options again.

Here's how I verified it:

1) Start\Programs\Accessories\Entertainment\Sound Recorder
2) File\Properties
3) Click "Convert Now"

With the AACACM driver installed, the only option is 8,000 Khz 16 Bit Mono
Without the AACACM driver installed, I get all the normal Mono/Stereo options up to 48,000 Khz 16 Bit Stereo

Note: This probably belongs in the "Codec" forum given the new information.

Confirmed, and weird. I'll see if I can figure out how that happens.

Wow, thank you for finding this. My responses to the ACMDM_FORMAT_DETAILS query were completely wrong. It should be fixed now:

Thanks for the update. The 1.8 version works however it also adds several options that were not available.

Without the AACACM, my PCM options ranged from:

8,000 Khz 16 bit Mono to 48,000 Khz 16 bit Stereo

With the 1.8 AACACM installed all the default options are restored however it also adds a 3 Channel, 4 Channel, 5 Channel, 6 Channel and 8 Channel version of every frequency as well.

The only other non-standard codecs I have are Fraunhoffer MP3 Professional and your AC3ACM codec but I don't think they'd cause a problem since they work fine together without the AACACM.

Are you able to reproduce this issue with any other software except Cantasia? I tested with Sound Recorder and Adobe Audition and could not reproduce.

Not really although the other programs I have (Vegas and Sound Forge) offer advanced PCM options by default.

What I did notice though is all the options that show up in Sound Recorder and Camtasia Recorder are identical to the "AAC ACM Codec" choice in VirtualDub's audio compression dialog.

It appears that programs which offer a basic compression choice such as Sound Recorder are mashing the default PCM options together with the AAC options so without AAC the best I get is 48,000 16 bit stereo but with AAC I get that plus choices all the way up to "8 channel".
