Anyone here know about vocoding?
There is a song that I am doing about a woman. I know, what a song to have for a "first" serious song for a recording. I spent about a good week on it and have about 13 days left to get the song out for Christmas.
One part I'm stuck on though. I have tried software vocoders, maybe I have not found the right one? I have even tried the modulate function in audition and I cannot get the voice of the person's name to blend with the guitar. Sounds like a very faint robot. I tried AnalogX's vocoder, same deal.
To get an idea on what effect I'm looking for: I guess "E.L.O." or Frampton comes to mind here but a bit more subtler than this probably.
I settled on the two notes for the name, the upper "A" note and down a whole step to "G", now it's only a question of blending my voice with those notes to get her name.
Hardware is out of the question for me at this time. I just bought a Line 6 box so I could have something better than an Alesis USB cable for multitracking. Line 6 is awesome. This stuff is pretty amazing. I just got back with playing the guitar again.
Are there any software based solutions to blend a voice with a guitar?
I was thinking to talk with someone at the local music shop but I'm not sure they could do something like this for me. Could be a lot cheaper than buying actual hardware?
Without this piece the song would be sort of incomplete.
If anybody knows of any sources for software that would be great.
Thanks. |

Asking on a musicians forum could get you a quick answer. Some vocoder softwares listed here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocoder
Or maybe you could hire from a music shop a vocoder, maybe like this http://proguitarshop.com/store/effects-mis...y-vocoder-p-957 Music shops hire out gear, maybe your friendly shop could hire one out to you for a few days. Or ask if they know locally where you can hire one. |

Here's an attempt with some added reverb and a lot of editing:
Name is suppose to be "Laurie"
Key of G: http://rjschat.dyndns.org:8080/auds/2010/p...rsonal/name.mp3
Key of F: http://rjschat.dyndns.org:8080/auds/2010/p...onal/name-F.mp3
Sounds kind of like a little kid.
Done through adobe audition with envelopes, a phaser, copying and pasting the "r" from one spot and pasting to another section and reversing it, time stretching somewhat. Before that I had put two files through AnalogX's software merger.
The software merger didn't do too bad of a job after a couple of tries but you have to get the tones just right or it comes as as very robotic sounding. |
