So I finally got my new RAM working* which means this round of upgrades is complete.
old CPU: Core 2 Duo E4400, 2Ghz, 2MB cache, 800Mhz FSB new CPU: Core 2 Duo E7500, 2.93Ghz, 3MB cache, 1066Mhz FSB
old RAM: 2GB, 800Mhz, 4-4-4-12 new RAM: 4GB, 800Mhz, 5-5-5-15
old GPU: Geforce 8800GT new GPU: Radeon 5770
Now if ATI would finish fixing their drivers/bios I'll be sitting pretty for a while.
*I had purchased RAM with looser timing than my installed RAM without realizing it (I thought my existing RAM was slower) and when I put the new RAM in my computer wouldn't boot, once I swapped the RAM banks to put the slower RAM in first it boots fine. |

EVERYTHING? No. But their 5000 series cards have a serious problem that's going to be a killer if they don't have it fixed by the time Fermi comes out. |

My prediction is that ATI will never fix their drivers... but the good news is that they won't have to, because NVIDIA is busy making theirs suck too. |
