I am running VirtualDub version 1.4.10 on a Windows XP Pro system. I capture at 352 X 480 resolution using the HuffyUV codec. I am not framserving. Post capture I would like to apply certain filters (Sharpen, Deinterlace and Dynamic Noise Reduction.) Whenever I apply any of these filters (and I suspect any filters at all) the resultant avi file has sound for a little over two minutes, after that, through the end of the file there is no sound whatsoever. I have tried a few of the lesser versions (all in the 1.4 series) and had the same results. Does anyone have any ideas to correct this. Any/all help is greatly appreciated.

I've gathered some supplemental information about the problem. I am using a ATI AIW Radeon 7500 for my capture card.

1. When I play the resultant file with ATI File Player 7.6 all the way through I do have sound all the way, however after two minutes it gets out of sync, it gets progressively worse. At the end of a ten minute capture it seems like the sound is off sync by one or two minutes. If I drag the slider bar across to various times in the segment, any time after two minutes does not play any sound (this is what I was doing originally.)

2. I get similar results with Media Player 8.0, except when I drag the progress bar beyond two minutes it gives me the error "The file format is invalid".

3. I have tried compressing with the PicVideo MJPEG Codec instead of the HuffyUV codec and I still have the same problem after applying filters (for testing purposes I am only using the sharpen filter.)

4. I am not recompressing the file again when I apply the filter/s (I have tried it both ways.)

5. I tried VirtualDub Sync

6. I deleted the system partition, reinstalled Windows XP, the necessary ATI drivers, VirtualDub Sync, and HuffyUV/PicVideo MJPEG codec, and nothing else and the problem persists.

Could it be in my procedures for applying the filter/s? Listed below is the exact steps I take to apply a filter:

1. Open VirtualDub
2. Select File >> Open AVI File
3. Highlight the previously captured file and click the open button
4. Select Video >> Filters
5. Click Add
6. Highlight the Sharpen filter and click OK
7. Set the sharpen value click OK...the Sharpen filter is shown in the open area of the filters window.
8. Click OK in the Filters window to close
9. Select File >> Save as AVI
10. Enter a different filename and click Save
11. At the Video Coach warning... Do you wish to Continue Click OK and the processing starts

I have noticed one more thing that might be helpfull/off. The VirtualDub I am using defaults to "Full Processing Mode" for Video and "Direct Stream Copy" or audio. Should Audio be set to "Full Processing Mode" ?

I am also seeing the same problem with Windows 2000. I can capture a large (7Gb+) avi file without problem. If I edit and save the clip I get the same sound problems.

One thing I have found: If I chop out enough frames to get the final file size under 2Gb then everything works perfectly.

I've tried this with all combinations of full processing/direct copy for both video and audio and it makes no difference.

I'm still testing, but it seems that the recently released version 1.4.11 fixes this problem.
