how do I instal deshaker in virtual dub? I cant even download it successfully |

All plugins go into a subfolder of virtualdubs
If you have 32bit virtualdub they are put into plugins32
If you have 64bit virtualdub they are put into plugins64
Then when you restart virtualdub they are available on the filters list
Deshaker is available at http://www.guthspot.se/video/deshaker.htm

I've downloaded Deshaker successfully and it is listed in the plugins, but it is not on the filters list in vdub |

Checklist
You have 32 bit virtualdub (virtualdub.exe) and inside it's plugins32 folder there is the file deshaker.vdf
or
You have 64 bit virtualdub (veedub.exe) and inside it's plugins64 folder there is the file deshaker_64.vdf
Start virtualdub or virtualdub64
Set 'full processing mode' on the video menu
Select 'filters' on the video menu
Click the 'add' button on the filters dialog box
Deshaker should be on the list
Click on it
Click Ok to add it to the filter list
Click OK on the filters dialog box to return to virtualdub
If that does not work, click on 'log' in virtualdub's 'view' menu
Does the log say anything?

Mine is 32 bit virtual dub. When I click Add on filters dialogue box, Deshaker is not on the list. There is nothing in the log. |

If everything in the checklist was OK then you'll have to take it up with the plugin author

Sure to have unzipped the file (from Deshaker30.zip to Deshaker.vdf) ?
When file-extensions in Windows are not shown, it is not always obvious.
To show file extensions:
In Windows Explorer - Tools-menu > Folder options... > View-tab > in the "Advanced settings" list, uncheck "Hide extensions for known filetypes". |

I just can't find out how to do this. In virtualdub-1 is listed: aviproxy, auxsetup.exe, Deshaker.vdf, vdremote.dll and 8 other things. When I click on VirtualDub.exe VirtualDub 1.9.9 appears, but in Video>Filters>Add deshaker is not listed. |

It can't be much simpler really
Download the .zip file with it in http://www.guthspot.se/video/files/Deshaker30.zip
Open the virtualdub folder with virtualdub.exe in
Open the Deshaker30.zip file
Extract deshaker.vdf from the Deshaker30.zip file and move it into virtualdub's plugins32 folder
Start virtualdub

I downloaded that. The video says R click on it and you get a menu which says "Explore." When I R click on it I get a menu which says "Open. Show how to open this file. etc." If I click "Open" it says "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." I don't know what that means. |

Windows should let you open them all by itself
Seems like you've installed something that opens zip files and have uninstalled it
7zip is a free program that handles zip (and others) http://www.7-zip.org/

Thanks. My problem now is how to move deshaker.vdf into virtualdub's plugins32 folder. I can't find plugins32 folder. In virtualdub there is a folder called plugins, but if I put deshaker.vdf into it, it still doesn't appear in the list in Video>Filters>Add |

Just a plugins folder means you have an older version of virtualdub
(it changed name in the newer versions)
But putting it into the plugins folder is correct for the older versions
Did you start virtualdub after moving the file there?
