Hey guys, since ive started my walkthroughs (using fraps) ive been a big user of virtual dub and using the x264 codec to compress them and the videos are great. Now im starting a new walkthrough and i wanted to add opening text like A MajorFoley1 Production and i said id use sony vegas pro to do that add some music that would fade out and then add it to the virtual dub compression process before the walkthrough however when i try to appen the other segments it comes up with cannot append segment (file location) the video streams use different compression schemes. I know that fraps doesnt exactly have compressed videos and use something called FPS1 anyway to get around this? (i really want to add video titles to my videos) when i tried to use opening with other videos it also came up with audio streams arent compatible either |

Are you saying that you already did compress fraps-video's with VirtualDub ?
If so, then you can compress all the needed pieces with identical VirtualDub video- en audio-settings ?
And, if you take into account to use equal frame dimensions (for example 800x600 pixels) then it should be possible to 'append' them with VirtualDub. |

Well, personally I can not directly say what the cause of this would be.
But you can still try what it should give, if you first re-'Save as AVI...' two or more of the actual AVI's with VirtualDub's - Video-menu set to Direct Stream Copy, and - Audio-menu set to Full Processing Mode and - Audio > Compression... set to (for example) MPEG-Layer 3 at 256kBit/s, 48.000Hz, Stereo.
Now try to append these new AVI's...
Another try-out could be (again to test with two or more AVI's): - Audio > Conversion : set to 44.100Hz instead of 48.000Hz and - Audio > Compression... : set to <No compression (PCM)> - then Save as AVI...
Try to append... |

Due to the difficulty of joining non-identical video formats, I would edit in Vegas, render a lossless intermediate video... ..and compress the intermediate in Virtualdub, adding any last-minute color correction etc. |

Hmm what if i were to originally just compress with Vdub then add to sony vegas to add any titles n such that i want? wouldn't that be easier but would this also make the video lose a bit more quality? and speaking of that is there any way to transfer codec settings to programs like sony vegas or do you have to use/customize their pre made templates? |
