So VDub's gonna be 2.0 soon. I suggest to do the following:
so you can see/change mode and codec in use.
Also it would be good if VDub would've stored last used mode and codec, so you could just start it, drop the vid in it, press F7 and be done.
What do you think about it? |

I started a thread a couple of days ago asking for a customizable toolbar to get the same (and a little more) functionality.
This would be a step in the right direction. |

I think toolbar's probably the most likely way I'd go for this... hardcoding a set of controls doesn't seem like a good way to go. Besides, there's no way to put controls inside a standard menu bar.

Yeah, that way people could turn off the toolbars, if they don't need them.
I would certainly like to have "Video Settings" and "Audio Settings" toolbars.

...And I would like if VirtualDub had shared clipboard to provide the ability to copy frames from one instance and paste into another...
Which, in turn, calls for "Copy", "Paste", "Cut", "Undo", "Redo" buttons-with-icons in UI 
...And... oh! "Print" -- to send the current frame to the desired printer (with an option to print N frames on the page as an 'index', surely)... 
What else, hmm?... |

I'd like to have another clipboard feature: I am using AVS-scripts for editing clips, so I doubleclick the current framenumber to highlight it and rightclick it for the contextmenu to copy the framenumber to the clipboard so that I can paste it into my AVS-script for the trim-command.
It would be nice to have a button, which does the same or alternatively singleclicking the frame-panel <Frame N (0:00:00.000) [K]> will copy the framenumber to the clipboard. |

Even nicer would be a cue-list (bookmarks) of comma-separated framenumbers which is updated internally with every singleclick on the panel (or the previously mentioned new button) and copies the updated list to the clipboard.
The list should be cleared on load/reload of a clip.
The ability to set/reset/goto bookmarks and export the list to the clipboard would be another way to help me editing AVS-scripts. |

Hi
Once I requested a Bookmarks panel/form.
I think it would be productive:
- add bookmarks made of a single frame, or a video region
- see the list of the bookmarks
- produce a video from the selected bookmarks
- maybe a sideline text comment to the bookmarks, just to know what that region of frames is

I wouldn't like toolbars at all.
They are using vertical screen space. Given the tendency that all monitors soon will be 16:9 or 16:10 (i.e. wide), it means that vertical screen space is very valuable and should not be wasted on redundant controls which are available in the menus and separate dialog windows. Microsoft failed miserably to meet their own GUI guidelines when they introduced ribbons in Office applications because those take even more vertical screen space than toolbars.
VirtualDub UI is relatively ok, it could use just a bit of polishing, not a re-design.
I would like VirtualDub to remember selected audio and video codec though as I said long time ago.

That is why customizable toolbars would be great. Just being able to add a few more buttons/drop down lists wouldn't necessarily increase vertical screen space used by said controls. Being dockable on the sides would address that issue too. |
