I've searched the forum and I don't found anything about it, so it's time to ask for a port. It would be really great if Vdub could take advantages of Haiku, IMHO.
| QUOTE | | Haiku is a new open-source operating system that specifically targets personal computing. Inspired by the BeOS, Haiku is fast, simple to use, easy to learn and yet very powerful. |
The 1st fully functional release has been released in september:
| QUOTE | The purpose of this release is to make a stable development snapshot of Haiku available to a wider audience for more extensive testing and debugging. This will help the Haiku development team identify and address bugs, and thus improve the quality of the system as development keeps advancing towards the subsequent development milestones. Bugs found in Alpha 1 should be reported to the Haiku bug tracking system at http://dev.haiku-os.org. This first alpha release of Haiku comes approximately eight years after the project kicked off, and is the direct result of the dedication of many volunteer contributors from all over the world. Special thanks go to former Project Leader Michael Phipps, as well as to the small but very resilient group of core developers who stuck with the project throughout the years. Alpha 1 will be followed by additional development milestones, eventually leading to the long-awaited final release of Haiku R1. These subsequent official milestones will be announced as the release dates are defined by the Haiku development team. |
Download ISO/raw/VMWare images (both R1 and Nightly builds)
If you wanna test it from an USB flash drive, check this document: How to install Haiku to USB Flash Drive from Windows
Hope that inspires ! |

Sorry, but right now I don't really have the time or inclination to port to another platform. |

Launch sequence initialized! R1 Alpha 2 countdown in T minus ...
| QUOTE | Over the weekend, an official commitment to enter the release cycle mode has been made for a tentative release date of May 10th! In the seven months since the release of R1 Alpha 1, there has been numerous improvements to Haiku, with over 300 reported issues with R1 Alpha 1 fixed.
With unanimous support from the developers, Ingo Weinhold has stepped up as the acting release coordinator, with offers of support from Niels Reedijk. Already, a development branch has been made and Haiku Files has been updated to serve pre-release nightly images of r1alpha2 for testing purposes. We encourage all of you to help out by testing these images and reporting any regressions in stability or other issues.
In addition to testing, numerous other tasks need volunteers. These include coordinating mirrors and distribution via torrent files; reviewing the various documentation for improvements or inaccuracies: Building Haiku Guide, User Guide, Welcome Page; improving the localization of applications. |

...Ask Haiku developers to create Win-Emulator...
(Might be a bit cruel joke, I know) |

I always find it amusing when people say "you should totally port your program to my favorite obscure OS" or "you should totally add support for this format that no one's ever heard of". It's like they don't have the slightest idea how much work would be involved and don't have the slightest understanding of how little benefit there is for the programmer to do so. |

I did use Ubuntu some time ago and I really liked it. I even didn't mind readjusting to the different way of installing programs and working with the OS. Heck practically all of my hardware worked even my network card and my Verizon connection! Played nice with hardware and performance was nice and ram usage seemed better flowing, But....
I am fond of many windows programs and a lot of Linux alternatives were either not as capable as far as features went or the programs wouldn't work all that great. These were the deciding factors for me to go back to windows.
I used wine and a few windows programs I had were missing a few actions or functions but the rest seemed to work alright. Vdub worked fine it in.
I then thought if I had to use wine then I may as well be working in windows anyway and plus the wording of Blasphemies combining windows into Linux, in general, by a portion of the Linux population who consider people who do this as being traders, so I was kind of disappointed in the end.
Linux as far as tech usage, networking servers, database stuff, cmdline stuff, I believe Linux passes. As far as being a home user OS? I think it is not fully capable or complete yet. This may be why Linux isn't as popular with the mass market. I would like it to be but it has a lot of walking to do. |
