I will miss this forum it has been a Godsend for answering questions that I had and finding codecs that I needed.
Though I did not make many posts I did gain a lot of information and consider this forum a valuable resource.
I hope any new forum attracts the same quality people that have made this my go to place to find answers to the questions I have.
Thanks for being here. |

Dear avery,
It's sad to see this valuable forum ending and the same holds for the development of Virtualdub too. It was one of the things which got me into video processing a long time ago (around 2002). Thanks for the inspiration and I wish you all the best with new directions you will follow. |

Phaeron
I will be sad to see this forum go as well. I haven't been around as much lately but I have been a member since October of 2006. I was a lurker for some time before that even. I have been using Vdub for way over 10 years.
Most of my knowledge of video originated from here. So much help and friends here. It has been and still is an adventure.
Thanks to Phaeron's hard work with Vdub and that of the forum and for the software and plugins provided for Vdub. Also to Fcchandler, dloneranger and many others for their hard work.
It would be nice if someone could pick up the torch. It would be nice to still keep in touch with members and friends here. Glad to see Ale5000 starting out with a newer forum.
Tearing up a little. |

Currently it is still a bit incomplete the new forum but I hope to make it even better than commercial ones. The main point of my forum is the minimal use of database, reducing a lot the web hosting requirements, and in the future will be open source as VirtualDub I hope to see everyone to avoid lost contact with all of you.

I'm kind of curious: What was the very first post on here?
Looks like I have been a member since October 11th of 2006. December 5th of 2006 was my first post. Had to edit my last post for that correction.
My cat avatar is that of my cat Jeffrey. In 2006 he was 9 in that still photo taken from a frame of Digital8 video. He will be 18 this September. |

Thanks for keeping the forums around for as long as possible.
Following on SourceForge.
Though, I'm finding GitHub more user-friendly to read through. SourceForge has too many buttons.
Good luck with everything. |

I guess your writing about this New Virtualdub Forum
I nearly didn't spot the link in the you have put in your posts signature area. A thought also for those people that may have their forum settings disabled for showing all post signatures. They didn't have any idea what you were talking about. Hope this helps to clear any confusion they may have
I don't mean to put you or anyone else off Virtualdub really does need a dedicated forum with many topics as this one has. Didn't you get the forum from phaeron or saved yourself so can transfer everything. If not I thought the idea was to take this forum as an example that we are used to. This one is Powered by Invision Power Board maybe you choose the same or something similar. Or is it bland and basic because needs to be to stop spammers. But then easy to look at page source so nothing hidden there
I do think the forum should be laid out better topics wise to make it easy for new and old members to find help to the most common repetitive question that are asked. Maybe with a quality video guide section. Well it would be quality since it is a video editor no point having less than 1280x720p HD videos minimum that is hosted on Youtube with small image web page links or even playable from the web page. That is only the graphics is loaded not playing and all controls for those that need them. Videos in English only don't allow Youtube to add subtitles because Youtube added subtitles are useless. Instead have different language subtitles beside the video thumbnail and visible link to the video. People can read the guide how to add the soft subtitles a the video never have a guide for hard subtitles ever they ruin any video
This is what I though this forum would do and maybe Phaeron knew this and was time to make way for better. A shame then this forum cannot continue under new management such as dloneranger and his appointed moderators (slaves). I say this because as said a new for a dedicated Virtualdub forum with help and guidance for those that need it together with all other things Virtualdub forum has now or have for our Virtualdub community
I hope some of these pointers may help or not help talking to others will help you understand this if you don't see it now |

| QUOTE (phaeron @ Mar 10 2015, 12:36 AM) | | For issues or comments about VirtualDub, you'll still be able to contact me by email. After a recent hard drive loss -- from which, thankfully, I lost no source code -- I chucked the crappy email software I had been using and moved over to a modern email client, so I actually am moderately responsive to email again. At this point I have no idea where VirtualDub will be going, considering what little I've been able to put into it... but one thing that I can guarantee is that it will work on Windows 10 and I will make any needed fixes to ensure that. I still use VirtualDub, and I'll be damned if I end up in a situation of not being able to run my own software. |
incase you're filtering out gmail (email software? now THAT was a long time ago!) here's what i sent you on may 16:
| QUOTE | as fcc said on forum "I also would like to get a backup of the forums if possible..."
it is interesting that you wrote it'll work on win10, given that i've read ms says it will be their last "big" version (they'll update it but not make new versions, according to that article..ie this one http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-32658340 )
if so, vdub will survive a long, long time.....if ms does...heh....
i probably wouldn't be able to remember "everwicked" the way fcc did, but i can surely confirm it now that he mentioned it.
then, you also have this http://www.virtualdub.org/blog/pivot/entry.php?id=26
oh yeah, forum was fun! |
oh yeah, others that have the database can send it too.
btw. if wilbert and fcc are reading this, it would be great to have your email addresses (though i think i can get in touch with wilbert via doom9 forum).
cheers

Sad news indeed...
I still use VirtualDub most days and was really hoping that one day we'd get a version that saved the encoded output to the Matroska container.
Anyway. My best wishes go to you phaeron and to everyone else who have made VirtualDub possible over all these years
