Thank you so much phaeron for all you've done with VirtualDub. You definitely had a big impact on my life. I also would like to get a backup of the forums if possible... I'll send you an e-mail.
As I recall, you took over the forum from a guy called everwicked.
I am still alive but it's a long story. November 2012 my website was hacked and my ISP called me on the telephone at home to tell me that I was hosting malicious software! Nothing like that had ever happened to me before. They took the site down and ever since then I've been too timid to revive it. I just decided to lay low for a while. Then "a while" became years and well, here we are.
I haven't touched my VirtualDub plugins since then and I do not plan to resume, so don't even ask. I am working full time as a software developer for a company based in the Netherlands and I just don't have the time anymore. (I make beaucoup money though, so I can't complain!) All my old source code is still out there if anyone else decides to pick up the torch.
Sad to see this place go, so many memories. Best luck to everyone.

Thank you too, fccHandler, for your support on this forum. Many people use your plugins, but I suppose that a lot wasn't aware of your page hacking. Sad times indeed...
Just before the forum closes, many thanks to all contributors who helped others in their little or big problems. A guy is helped through answers at his question, but dozens and dozens of anonymous read the thread later, and are helped too. The forum is a gold mine for all VirtualDub users. |

Than you fccHandler for all your work.
PS: I will create a new forum soon and I hope all people will go here instead of disappear.

I don't mind either way if here or elsewhere as long as it is available. Not only is it a resource but sanctuary of help and learning for many people
@ ale5000 Your talking of bringing the forum as it is now with all the posts registrations and logins etc intact or a new forum. Have you the web site code intact to do that ? Also please don't make it all about javascript, everything javascript can do so can be done without javascript. Javascript exits only because of those idiot softwares that assume everyone needs javascript. If you do use those find one that has ability to allow for javascript and non javascript setting. So both can exist side by side. As is this site says is javascript but I have never needed to have javascript activated to visit and post here, meaning Avery is good at website coding also
@ fccHandler I am happy to hear your alive MIA and thankfully not yet returned back to earth Thanks for letting everyone know the situation regarding your web site and your code that they can make it better whenever any of the become broken or needs updating
@Phaeron Thank You for the many years you have taken care of this forum and your code Virtualdub. We welcome updates small and large when you have time to do any. Will keep a check at Sourceforge in case any new Virtualdub forum becomes a miss or failure (which can happen) Is your Virtualdub.org also closing or is it only the forums ! |

@-vdub-: No, it will be separate. Maybe I will import old posts in the future but not registrations.
Javascript is nice if you know how use it (thing that most people don't know, so they are full of javascript errors) but it can work also without it; almost of my code can "degrade gracefully".

everwicked! That was the name I had forgotten. Great seeing you again, too, fccHandler.
virtualdub.org is not closing. My personal email, blog, and a lot of other random crap is on it, and if I do any new releases, those will be on it too.
I haven't appointed a new maintainer. I don't think anyone would want the position, and it'd be a bit weird anyway because my name is pretty much permanently associated with VirtualDub. That having been said, it's open source and no one needs to be appointed to try it.
I'm going to try to strip mine the post database. Let's see how much crap we accumulated over the years....

Heh... no, I suck at website coding. The most I do is simple HTML + CSS, and a tiny bit of Javascript. Just the basic difference in DOM API are enough to drive me nuts.

All forums except this one have been switched to read-only archive mode, but this forum and PMs are still active for the moment. Visibility flags got a bit screwed up when I was mucking with the forums -- hopefully it's back to the way it was.
I've sent out filtered post dumps to a couple of people who have requested them, but I will not be giving out full dumps of the database due to it containing email addresses / IP addresses / password hashes. Haven't decided whether to leave the forum up for a while in read-only mode, but I'll leave this on for a short bit so people can transition. New registrations are closed anyway, so spamming won't be an issue anymore. |

First public version of the new forum online. This is written entirely by me in php, it will require some time before it will be complete, but you can already register, create topics and edit posts.
Link is in my signature.
Note: Currently you can't change e-mail address, so use the correct one during registration, for any problem or e-mail change contact me.

Whats the point to develop a forum? How about activating forum on sourceforge? |

To avoid depending on external forums, so I can fix all problems myself in the code. Also anyone can develop skins in css to change the interface.
My ideas for the forum will reduce the spam to almost 0 (not yet implemented), also the forum source code will be open source in the future.

I think you're doing way too much work for something so basic, and it's going to take too long to get off the ground, but I appreciate the initiative :) |

To be sincere the work has started something like 10 years ago, the forum was lying on my harddisk unused, in these days I have only added the e-mail verification. Since it is my code, at least I can easily edit it.
It can already be used, there aren't advanced things yet, but the basic things to get help are there.

If you are worried about passwords, the forum store only the MD5 of the password in the database so noone can recover it (neither do I). It can be only be resetted through e-mail (not yet implemented).
