I did those things last night.

Both using the Aja control panel interface, and with it turned off, no timing or colorspace worked. Several resized the screen, and doing the 'settings' trick, I could see and hear, but when I clicked capture, it never captured. It also didn't like a couple of the color settings, but I am not at that terminal right now.

I then dug up and plugged in a webcam.

VDub seemed to work, but when I reviewed the footage, about 10 seconds was correct, then the video went haywire.

So, I have uninstalled everything that looks like an Aja card driver, then used filmerit to uninstall every directshow filter I could find.

I then cleaned my registry, and searched and deleted every folder I can find.

I'm not sure what to do next.

Doesn't Win7 not allow you to have also XP OS installed I have read this is possible. Try it with XP Service Pack 3 OS

I know zero about W7. That's part of why I installed it, so I could learn on a non-critical computer, and so I could use more RAM.

So, try dual booting, and put XP on there, and try it that way?

I'm on the microsoft site. Do you think the virtual mode XP will be sufficient?

Well,

let me answer my own question for those that might google this:

No.

Now, my system doesn't support virtualization. The board does, the CPU does not.

So, I set up a virtual instance of XP Pro 32 bit via VMware. Could NOT find the card to save my life.

Reading further into it, VMware doesn't always see everything shoved into the computer, and my Aja card is one of them, apparently.

So, that was a solid day and a few gigs of download bandwidth shot.

Next, I tried to install a dual boot system, with native XP Pro 32 bit on one side and the legacy Win7 Pro 64 bit on the other.

It worked fine until the first time I booted into 7. Now (using easyBCD), I can't return to XP. wacko.gif

Anyway, I loaded everything into XP, and got almost the exact same results as I did in 7.

Keeps wanting to display 29.97. I can set 525/59.95, select 59.95 under capture>settings, try it, crash, back out of avi capture, come back, and it's defaulted to 29.97 again.

Setting 525/59.94 and ARGB inverts the image and the colors! No other color space makes any difference.

If I allow the filter to read 59.95, and the setting to read 29.97, it then blinks twice (preview mode, no acceleration) then throws the (cannot start) flag, same as if I select 29.97 in both.

Selecting F5 or F6 instead of the menu doesn't change anything.

Selecting uncompressed, or Aja 10 bit doesn't change anything. Selecting aja 8 bit compression crashed vdub.

SO

Typically, I always blame the driver. The problem I have here is that VirtualDub can actually render the video and audio. In multiple formats.

It just refuses to capture.

Is there a log of what Vdub is doing, step by step, to see where it chokes?

Thanks!

Shawn

More than anything doing this is more likely to help Phaeron to determine the problem, trying it also with XP.

You say it was working with Win7 at first but not since ? Have you checked the hardware pulled the card out and reinserted it or try another PCI-E slot though I guess this would be fist thing you do. That with checking cables, connectors and other such things. Even check the bios. Just giving you things to try while you wait for Phaeron to visit. Or wait as Phaeron shouldn't be to far away saying that it has been a while since he last visited us here as can be seen at the Virtualdub 1.10.5 Test Thread

I knew it had been a while since Phaeron had last posted here, it's been a while. Normally would be every week or two at the most, maybe he is on vacation or busy with other projects etc

I've never been able to capture.

What it does do, is allow me to view and hear the stream from the card. I've never been able to record video and audio at the same time from the card.

VLC will allow me to record video only. Historically, it would only run for a few seconds then it would lose lock.

I found a couple of new drivers and something, and yesterday it seemed (VLC) to record without breaking up.

(testing it now)

What I am trying to do now is to learn how graphedit works, and see if I can build something that will work. In fact, I noticed the filter forum, I think I'll pop over there, and see if anyone might be interested in helping...

Well,

It ran for about a minute, then the picture went haywire. It continued to record, however. It was a static image, so I don't know what would happen if it was a high contrast or rapidly changing image.

I un and reregistered some dlls this morning, and now vlc will record for at least 3 minutes without choking. Still no audio.

Vdub, I learned this- never dawned on me that logging is possible. Log says cannot transition to pause graph, then cant run graph hr 80004005(). Any of that sound familiar?

A quick net search 'microsoft 80004005' shows also may have something to do with privileges or permissions with the OS components or settings. Maybe you track it down. try find other drivers even custom drivers where others may have had the same problem and fixed it (if driver related at all). Otherwise all you can do is wait for Phaeron to see if he can figure out what the problem is, maybe it'll be this weekend he next visits ! (unknown) !
