I have to select Copy source frame to clipboard, then I have to paste it in a graphic software, like Paint. Isn't there a way to capture them directly as in VirtualDubMod?

I think dloneranger said not long ago somewhere,

Select [1..frame(s)] with home/end keys,
select video/color depth/output format [grayscale..16..24..32bit],
use file/export/image sequence [bmp, tga, tga/rle, jpg, png]

It can also snapshot every Nth frame with use interpolate filter.

For Audio you can select stream you need to use from Audio > Source Audio where all streams are listed

For more than one audio stream need to use VirtualDubMod or another software. This is needed for many encodes for example multi language video, commentary and other audio streams

Others may mention External Encoders solution for this. Though tbh many people don't use external encoders because of the ui it has is not inviting or easy for them to understand. Where it needs to be updated for that to happen. That said I believe that support for more than one audio track when encoding or direct copy should be made possible. As many tracks that is possibly allowed so is no longer an issue

Why multiple audio tracks encode/direct copy has not been enabled so far only Phaeron can say. Or maybe Phaeron waits for someone to do this and submit it for inclusion in Virtualdub. Phaeron has said a few times he is busy with many other projects and life things. Maybe then this is the future of Virtualdub the users do the coding Phaeron checks it and edits the code if needed so newer features and more then become added to Virtualdub faster if still allowed. Else other alternative builds such as VirtualDubMod will be preferred by many instead of Virtualdub official builds

It's too complicated, I was looking for something more immediate.

OK, but I can't demux the audio doing what you said.

VirtualDub can decode MP3 audio and Motion Jpeg videos! Internally!

So where's the VirtualDub compiled with x264 and libx264? Like x264vfw itself.
Coding/decoding without VfW interface not limited to 8-bit color and HD resolutions...

Let's write this in words. We need a feature so when meowmeow presses ie F11,
VD silently saves current source frame as 24-bit-color png in virtualdub/snapshots folder using videoname_Frame########.png mask.
Don't know how's mod's doing it, but this - will be ok.

OK, but I can't demux the audio doing what you said.

For aac and many other audio formats you cannot demux the audio with Virtualdub nor VirtualDubMod. You can encode to another format and save as that format such as wave (default), ac3, mp3 etc. As long as the audio encoder is installed into the os and Virtualdub is able to use it.

If you had an aac encoder installed on the os that Virtualdub could use. Would you want to re encode again an the aac audio you already have or direct copy it, direct copy demux it as is what Virtualdub users require. Phaeron is the person that develops Virtualdub. Phaeron is the only one that can tell us all why this option isn't an option in Virtualdub

ATM to demux aac and other audio you will need a demux software (for your video container mp4) or a video converter. Nearly if not all video converters should be able to do a simple audio demux

I hadn't got what you've said, maybe 'cause English isn't my first idiom. Please, can you repeat me with examples? I think it'd be more clear. Thanks.

My own technical knowledge is not so large, but if your question still goes about extracting the audio out of a video/movie file that you can play (view and hear - look and listen) in VirtualDub, then it should not be so complicated:
> Open the video in VirtualDub 1.9.11 (or later)
> In the Audio-menu, select "Direct stream copy"
> In the File-menu, click Save WAV...
now select a destination folder and type a name for the new audio-file
do not care about the file type (if it is possible via the inputdriver plugin, VirtualDub will write the original audio, if not VirtualDub will write a PCM WAV file)
> Click Save to write the file to disk.

N.B.: If you would like to save and encode the audio immediatly into another format, then (before going to File > Save WAV...) :
> in the Audio-menu do select "Full processing mode"
> also in the Audio-menu click on "Compression..." and select <no compression> or choose an encoder

1. Tell us the format what the audio track is for your video
Information: Load video into Virtualdub use File Menu > File Information or drop video onto software MediaInfo

2. Tell us the reason you need to demux the audio track
Virtualdub can load many other another audio tracks. Although Virtualdub hasn't got VirtualDubMod capability it can only save one audio track with video this is bad. If you need more you need more than one audio track per video use another software to remux more audio tracks to the video

I guess maybe it is because uncompressed avi can only have one audio track the reason why this is so. But for how long has xvid and other containers been able to have more than one audio (for as long as I can remember). And that Virtualdub these days is not only for or about uncompressed avi. In reality Virtualdub is poor for needed options we all take for granted with other video editors, converters and tools. We don't know if it ever will be more capable inly Phaeron Virualdub developer can tell us this and that is like (getting blood out of a stone) never so far

I'm not getting at Virtualdub it is the main video editor that I use. Only that Virtualdub users deserve to have better options. Option that other editors and software's have by default. So we don't need to keep relying on other software's to do simple every day video tasks and has these abilities. I know External Encoders may do some of these but for many people that try use Virtualdub, don't use it because it is awkward for them. Where they prefer Virtualdub UI instead or go use another software instead which is not good for Virtualdub

Sorry to reup this thread, I have a problem with WMV files... I need to cut some clips from several WMV files, I've downloaded the related plugin and put it in the plugins32 folder, but when I load the WMV into VD, it says "MISSING CODEC". Are there something else plugins I have to install?

The WMV codec is 32-bit, so you must be sure that your installed VirtualDub is also 32-bit.

Why not try the FFMpeginputdriver plugin that has recently been updated by dloneranger ?

You can find it here:

Installation goes by unzipping the 32-bit branch of files to your VirtualDub 32-bit installation.

So you should get a similar situation as the one below, when looking in Windows Explorer:
C:\Program Files\VirtualDub 1.10.5\plugins32\FFInputDriver.vdplugin
C:\Program Files\VirtualDub 1.10.5\plugins32\ffdlls\avcodec-55.dll
C:\Program Files\VirtualDub 1.10.5\plugins32\ffdlls\avformat-55.dll
C:\Program Files\VirtualDub 1.10.5\plugins32\ffdlls\avutil-52.dll
C:\Program Files\VirtualDub 1.10.5\plugins32\ffdlls\swscale-2.dll

When opening a WMV file via the Open video file... dialogbox (in VirtualDub 1.10.5.xx) you should do one single click on the WMV, and then at "Files of type:" select "FFMpeg supported files". Then click the Open-button.

Nope, it doesn't work. I've put all files included of the ZIP in the folder, now when I start VD I get this error:

user posted image

I've never had that error before putting those files you said... after the error the software loads the WVM file but I still have the missing code message. What's wrong? sad.gif

P.S.: I've removed the codec previously linked me by malky... don't tell me that it's necessary?
