I'm still around, though not as active as I was with playing with video at home. Since February 24th of last year I have been a volunteer at a local TV station. I am a cameraman, a producer, editor and all that good stuff. I have done my own projects there as well as helping out others with their projects to get them out to air.
I got over a breakup from almost 6 months ago and other things have hit me hard as well but the work that I am doing and of being at the station has been the best thing that has happened to me. It is the only real thing that is keeping my sanity in check and making me feel happy. I did work at a different cable station 23 years ago, before digital anything. Sony 3/4 U-matic tape decks, jog editing controller consoles, Chiron character generators, effects boards and huge cameras back then. I remember being fresh out of high school and getting that job for the summer. It was a blast.
My past projects were with a musician to get his music out to air and also worked on a series benefit project for awareness on the struggle of veteran's trying to obtain sheltering and food. Through our host and the project we were able to drum up help from local businesses to donate food and items to homeless veterans, and more support is coming as time goes by. Also doing city council and planning board live camera shoots. There have been a few other projects with one the mayor was involved with and liked.
I was recognized and awarded with the producer of the year award from the station at the annual business meeting back on the 25th of last October. It really does feel good when you can do something and make a difference and even having your name on it doesn't hurt either The people I work with and my bosses are great people. Fun to work with. I couldn't be more happier. Everyone helps one another out not only with work but also on a personal level when something should come up.
It's funny: things picked up for me around the time of my breakup with my girlfriend last year. Back then I had more time on my hands, now I don't have time for myself, lol. I love what I do. I always wanted to be into photo/video since I was a kid. I had a small photo business many years ago but it got squashed, system interference. I hope to bounce back someday and provide photo and video services from both the station and on my own.
I missed this forum. I think about it from time-to-time. How has everyone been? |

After 3am here. Having myself a relaxing Kava tea. I'll probably head out to rest within the next hour or so. Have to be up at the station later in the morning to finish a project.
Great to hear from ya and great to be back. |
