Hello,

Anyone can explain how is it that when I open any .avi file with embedded subtitles I get the subtitles in both Input/Output Video Panels and of course the converted file too. However, when I open any .MKV with embedded subtitles I have not. Even in the Input Video Panel. WEIRD wacko.gif blink.gif wacko.gif

Is any way to enable subtitles for .MKV files?
Regards

At my knowledge the AVI-containerformat has no option to embed a subtitler track, only a video-track and one or more audio-tracks.
Subtitling when playing an AVI is done via an external file (like *.SRT) that contains the subtitles and timer-indications.
It is the player software that will take care about displaying and synchronising the AVI and the SRT.

When you open an AVI in VirtualDub and you see the subtitling in the Input pane, than you may suppose that the subtitles are really part of the images themselves.
In VirtualDub you can make the combination of AVI and SRT by using a subtitler "filter" like VobSub.

When talking about MKV, that is another story. This containerformat has the ability to "embed" subtitling.
So, there are one or more subtitler-tracks in the MKV, what makes it possible to whether show one of them, or not showing subtitles at all.

TNX Abrazo for these infos, unfortunately it does not do me more.
So, how can I bring up the subtitler-tracks in the MKV?

There have been a few threads about this in the past (Search for "subtitles AND mkv", starting from the homepage in this forum):
> http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act...=ST&f=7&t=22076

TNX Abrazo,
I did search "subtitles +mkv" without success."subtitles AND mkv" works, Search for "subtitles AND mkv", I learn every day wink.gif

How far I understood from the above threads, there is no direct solution. I must extract the subtitles from the .mkv and apply it to the .avi.
Regards
