First of all, I would like to say that VirtualDub is the best thing since sliced bread! I use it a lot and recommend it to anyone I meet!

There are two features that I would find most helpful.

I use VD a lot for inputting video already captured on an edit suite and outputting it compressed. I usually use the same compression format and size, the same filters and settings and the same audio compression.

Could there be a function added that would remember all my usual settings, perhaps as a savable list of "My settings" or similar. This could include which video codec, (incl. codec settings), which audio codec, which filters ( I usually resize from 720x576 down to 640x480 and then I deinterlace) etc. Does Avisynth do this. I've downloaded Avisynth but haven't yet looked fully into it.

Secondly, because a lot of my video is relatively large pixel size, (720x576 or 640x480) it makes it difficult to see both input and output screens with my 1024x728 screen. Making the display vertical does not help either as the output screen is still off the end. Would it be possible to include a 1/2 size screen option. I know this would mean you may not be able to see the quality loss that the codec is applying, but it would be better to see it than not. Alternatively, there could be a scroll bar across the bottom to slide between the two panes.

Please add your views to this.

Tristan.

You can save your filter setting as a file with the .vcf extension.
The option is under File menu.
Second, if you right click your mouse over the input or/and output window an option will appear that lets you select between 1/4 to 4x sizes for preview.
