MCF people are in the process of investigating if the MCF transor API could be dropped in favour of UCI. While UCI started as a 'Unix Codec Interface' it will more likely turn into a 'Universal Codec Interface' soon, as the same thing ispending for OpenBeOS and other OSes also ...
It seems to be about time to turn the back to VfW and ACM API , as its very very hard to use anyhting similar on other platforms, and right now its a pain for codec developers to release them with support for even the most important OS.
I'd love to get your opinion on that !

Sounds good. In fact it sounds excelent. With something like this that is open and could be ported to any OS it would give the user and opensource developers the upper hand. Finally we could work to bring about an end to Microsoft's monopoly on propriety. Microsoft has dictated things to long. If this does everything needed I say lets push it. |

yup
- Alex is busy coding libuci and bringing UCI specs into DocBook format
- XviD team is considering to use UCI as main API
- I am trying to convince Xiph and MPC people to do the same
- it was decided UCI will be main codec interface for MCF ; en/decoders are called from libmcf

... but unfortunately not very xcommon. Mayn opensource developers seem to suffer from the '...not invented here ....' syndrome  !
