Sometimes I come across a video file with "outrageous" dimensions. Right now I have a YT mp4 download with 1080x720 dims. I cannot preview/playback such files in ViDub on my XP laptops - not when loaded directly into ViDub nor when loaded via avs - whether or resized. CPU usage goes to 100% and locks up the playback. This means I cannot preview & edit out the video before (re)dubbing.
I spent quite some time this weekend searching the web for avs preview options. There are several apps/utils dedicated to avs editing/previewing. Some won't preview/playback this file. Some (avsP-mod / MeGUI) will preview the this file - but with no audio & only one frame at a time. (TmpegEnc & MPC-HC have the same avs preview/playback problem as ViDub.)
AvantiGUI 066 with the latest FFmpeg build listed @ videohelp.com will actually preview/playback this file. (This mp4 file has a variable frame rate, so I use ConverFPS=True in the avs script, but have to remove that setting for proper A-GUI playback!)
The "problem" now is that the A-GUI shows the current timestamp but not frame count. I could still do pre-dub editing based on A-GUI timestamp info, but wonder if there might be (or already is) some way to set ViDub to use FFmeg for preview/playback? ... or some other work-around / solution to this issue? |

| QUOTE (Abrazo @ May 28 2012, 12:55 PM) | 4) Maybe the resources of your Window XP computer (CPU and/or memory) are not sufficient to play this kind of "outrageous" content Do you see much difference in performance when respectively using the DirectShow, QuickTime or FFMpeg plugins? | Well, as I stated/posted previously/above,
| QUOTE | AvantiGUI 066 with the latest FFmpeg build listed @ videohelp.com will actually preview/playback this file. | so it seems that my XP systems are capable of playing videos files with outrageous dimension - with the RIGHT software ... Anyway, I was/am asking if opening such files into ViDub with the FFmpegID, would then make ViDub use FFmpeg for playback ... like AvantGUI? |

| QUOTE (Abrazo @ May 29 2012, 08:01 PM) | But what I proposed was to only leave the FFInputdriver (and thus also remove the DirectShow inputdriver). FFInputdriver can open *.MOV, *.MP4, *.FLV, *.AVI (DIVX, ...), and also MPEG2, VOB, ...Did you even try it ? | No I did not (yet) try it. This "discussion" has its roots in the kbps vs bps issue. It does not seem to me a necessary thing to do; i.e., remove everything except FFmpegID. I have to use utilities like MediaInfo to retrieve certain info about videos (that ViDub does not specify - see other/relevant thread), so I retrieve (when necessary) the kbps data from said utilities.
It still seems to me that it would be a nice feature to be able to specify a parameter in the contextmenu commandline that would specify an inputdriver (DSID, FFmpegID ...)
| QUOTE (Abrazo @ May 29 2012, 08:01 PM) | So in the proposed circumstance: In Windows Explorer, right click on a videofile, choose "Open with" and go to your VirtualDub.exe. | You think I do not kow how to use the XP contextmenu?
