What is the bug?
Exporting and importing PNG works fine till my last test.

When opening an AVS file VirtualDub was thinking it was a PNG sequence sad.gif

Consider everything you are doing now as a training for the main challenge, being to enable Vdub to access codecs via UCI smile.gif ... lol !!

As you can read in the thread above, this is not a MCF specific thing, but was necessary for OGG/OGM/MP4 also if it wanted to make use of all functions modern video codecs can offer, but can not be used ( or not used correctly ) via VfW now, due to its limitations ....

Well it is on my todo list just after making a new codec that allow DVD quality @ 1 bit per second, and ruling the world laugh.gif

Anyway for anybody (interested in that) a codec using UCI would be necessary (it is pretty hard to code using the theory and not being able to test wink.gif).
The other point would be : how does an application know what are the codecs on the sytem that use UCI or can be used via UCI (wrapper)? (under Windows you can know what are the resgistered codecs so it is easier to get them).

suiryc, if you go there i make sure the developer of UCI talks to you about that.

In fact, its maybe not correct to say the codecs will be 'called' via UCI, because Alex wants to keep the API very simple, a mere codec interface, not more.

Registration of codecs, as well as calling them for an encoding apps ( all part of VfW ) is maybe part of a bigger picture called UMI ( Universal Muxing Interface ) or UFI ( Universal Format Interface ) that have been discussed already.

In any case its worth talking about this issue now, to make sure our nice codec interface is of use for encoding apps ...

What about leaving codecs to the app/framework in question ? Like dshow, gstreamer, mplayer, etc. You'd have to have universal codec indentification between UCI and that app/framework, but it might be an option.
