Does such a thing exist? I find that a lot of videos have way to much volume range and I find myself cranking up the volume to hear dialogue and then cranking it down for the action scenes. I was tinkering with the volume adjustment and gain audio filter in Vdub, but both of these amplify everthing equally which sends the high volume scenes into distortion. What I would like to do is boost low volume scenes and leave the high ones alone. |

You can do this with an audio editor using a feature called "compressor".
I've never been at ease with it, but you may find articles on http://www.computermusic.co.uk (obviously dedicated to music but you can apply it to your movie audio). Do a search on "compressor" or "compression".
