DirectShowSource("C:\DVD\test.mkv")

I get a grey screen in vdub, any suggestions?

Does the .avs play in windows media player?

Or
Are you just trying to load a .mkv into virtualdub?
If so, you can use the ffmpeg plugin to load most videos (without codec packs etc)
(links in my sig)

----
To use
Put FFInputDriver.vdplugin and the ffdlls folder into virtualdubs plugins32 folder
On the open video dialog, pick your video and then change the 'files of type' to ffmpeg.....
