I just wanted to ask you if there is any solution for the following:
I made a desktop application to take video from the camcorder and saves it on my computer. But the only problem is that I want that when I press record button on the camcorder it will automatically start recording the video on my computer and when I again press the record button on the camcorder the recording on my computer should automatically stop. I just want to know how are we suppose to do that ? work with port pins ? or is there any other solution ?

I am using this carmcorder : Sony HandyCam dcr-vx2100

Connection : FireWire

Please help me with this.

Thanking you.

I don't think VirtualDub supports "device control" (as it's called)

Old Sony Handycam to PC
You can just connect the handycam to the firewire port of your computer and use a program like WinDV [or Vegas, or Premiere...] to capture the video. You can use the WinDV's 'Device Control' feature to PLAY the video & then capture, even if the PLAY button on the handycam is not working.

This seems like going the other way, too -- DV tape control is possible from the computer, but this is going the other way, controlling the computer from the device.
