Hello,

I have an ssue with a MKV file containing subtitle. I explain:
- If I use the natural haali splitter, and so open the file with direct show plugin, then I got the video and audio, but not the subtitle
- I have so use the MKV plugin of FCChandler, but in this case VD is not able to render the audio part (tag: 2000)

So I'm a little bit blocked: can anyone help me?
The file is more than 1Go so it is very difficult to share it.

Additional question: where is FCChandler? Has he left the VD story?

Thank you
Rmanal

You need the ac3 acm codec for code 2000
There's a link to ffcHandlers stuff in my sig you'll find that there
(I put all of fccHandlers stuff on SourceForge as fccHandler just stopped appearing one day)

There are other useful input plugins at http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act...=ST&f=7&t=19488

The FFMpeg plugin can load most files without any external codecs -not sure what that does with subs, probably nothing though

The DirectShow plugin uses your systems installed DirectShow Filters, so you'd need a DirectShow subtitle filter and splitter that supports them
DirectVobSub and FFDShow are such filters, I'm not sure if Haali splits them (it may be in it's options) but LAVSplitter does

FFDShow has two settings DirectShow and VFW
MKV plugin uses VFW, so check the FFDShow VFW settings for subtitles

Sorry for being stupid and thank you for your answer, but:
- I have put the FFMPEG plugin, but how to use it when I open a file (I don't see the choice FFMPEG)?
- I have already the AC3 plugin: isn't it sufficient?

I will check FFDSHOW configuration, thank you again

Not the ac3 plugin, the ac3 acm codec :-)
They're two separate things, the first allows you to use ac3 as separate audio souce

FFMpeg plugin is selected from the 'files of type' on the open video dialog
After the plugin is put in the plugins32 folder, you have to restart virtualdub as it only loads them when it starts

OK, i'm progressing
I have now installed an AC3 filter and it is functionning with the MKV plugin.
But I still don't see the subtitle: how to make it appearing in the video?

For FFMPEG, which is the "files of type" to use, because I have only one MKV which is the matroska one?

Thank you again for your support.

To pick a plugin, on the open a video dialog, click the video you want, and then look towards the bottom of the dialog
There's a combobox there called 'files of type' setting, pick the input plugin you want and then click ok

So I've just had a play with the mkv plugin and ffdshwo - looks like ffdshow vfw doesn't do subs, or if it does the mkv plugin ignores them
So what I did was turn on subtitles for ffdshows directshow plugin and use the directshow plugin
...and that didn't play embedded subs in the file.... even with the play embedded subs options on

Soooo, I extracted the subs to a file with mkvtoolnix, named it the same as the video and then tried again with the directshow plugin
That worked fine

btw ffmpeg plugin doesn't do subs after a quick check

Pfff
Effectively it seems that the haali splitter sub output is not used by VD, and Haali does not incrust by itself the sub in the video stream.

So a good improvement for the matroska plugin ;-)

What is the name of the FFMPEG file of type??? I don't see it I think, or just not recognize it.

I will test mkvtoolnix

argh, how do you use mkvtoolnix to extract just the sub: it seems to merge file?

If it's not here
user posted image[CODE]
1) the plugin could be in the wrong place
2) you didn't put the ffdlls folder inside the plugins folder
3) you've mixed up the 32/64 bit plugin and virtualdub version (they have to be the same)

For FFMPEG, I can not see it?? But ok it is not a problem as it will not help me.

For MKV ok there is an additional software. Thank you.
It seems to work ;-)

For the future (;-)) MKV, I can wait (of course i'm joking if it is not obvious. even if I would like, I have no skill for programmation).

Thank you for all your support

It's a shame about fccHandlers plugins

TBH I just tend to use the FFMPeg and DirectShow ones now though
