Could you add .mod extension to the MPEG-2 plugin?
A .mod file is an mpeg-2 file, just the aspect ratio information are stored externally in a .moi file (there are also Amiga Music Module File with mod extension, these ones shouldn't be accepted)
More info are here: http://www.masternewmedia.org/how_to_conve...video_files_to/

An example file is here: http://samples.mplayerhq.hu/camera-dvr/Exa...C_MOD_VIDEO.MOD
I wasn't able to find online a matching couple of mod/moi but I have found some .moi files: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZH4HXA47

I looked at the file and it seems to be a normal MPEG movie with a wrong extension. To make it right (IMHO) you should give it a proper .mpg extension. The .mod extension was already claimed a long time ago and I do not intend to add it to the plugin, sorry. You might as well have asked me to add the .txt extension. rolleyes.gif

And no v0lt, I have not been asked this before.

Yes indeed. But real MPEG movies are expected to carry an .mpg extension. These files are misnamed, and in my opinion that is a bad practice which I do not agree with and do not wish to condone.

The .mod extension is for MOD files, and has been since 1987 (!) according to this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOD_(file_format)

I actually have quite a few MOD files from the old days and I would not expect them to show up in VirtualDub's list of supported formats. Although I respect your request, I feel that adding the .mod extension might spread confusion and I don't want to do that. Sorry.

Well the extension itself isn't a big problem, but it still would be nice if there is a filename.mpg (renamed from .mod, or with .mod extension but with mpeg-2 plugin forced using drop down menu) and filename.moi in the same folder and with the same name that it will read info like aspect ratio from the .moi file.

video standard used (PAL or NTSC), the aspect ratio used, and the interlacing.
The problem with these tags stems from the fact that they are being stored in associated small text files with the extension MOI.
Once you separate the MOD file from its companion MOI file, the video software you use to open the video file doesn't know anymore what aspect ratio and video file format is being used and tries to guess automatically.

The .moi files you posted are definitely not text files. And to be frank I really have no interest in supporting this perversion of the MPEG standard. I'm sorry that it is an inconvenience to you, but the blame is on Canon as far as I'm concerned.

file can always be renamed. not need to do absolutely support all the extensions, especially if the cause misunderstanding.
. mod is tracker music, perhaps a module of the program, but not MPEG

Also be aware that I treat the MPEG aspect ratio information as purely informative. It isn't utilized at all by the plugin. You will receive the same raw video data no matter what the aspect ratio is.
