I am using smart de-interlacer to de-interlace some DVD's. It works great but I am getting stair stepping along the edges. Is there a way to fix this.

If the DVD is a film source, try using Inverse Telecine. In VirtualDub select "Video->Frame Rate->Reconstruct from fields - adaptive" and it will deinterlace automatically. However, you may still want to use the Smart Deinterlace filter, because the automated IVTC isn't 100% perfect.
If you can determine the pattern offset, and if you can confirm that it's constant throughout the movie, then you can use "Reconstruct from fields - manual" and get rid of Smart Deinterlace.

OK, it works, but one question: Does VirtualDubMod Filter before it preforms IVTC? I still get stair stepping if I use smart de-interlacer and IVTC-Adaptive. But if I only use IVTC-Adaptive, I get a perfect picture.
Thank you for your help.

IVTC is done before filtering begins.
