Is A "chromacopy"[and Paste] Filter Possible...?

I ran this idea by Donald Graft a while back, but he's pretty busy... so perhaps someone else can pick it up...

I work in video restoration, and have an interest in colorization of old B&W programs... many of the particular programs that I work with a comprised of reasonably static shots, which would lend themselves well to the sort of "brute force" colorization that the name of this filter suggests, which is the tinting of a key frame (as, say, a .bmp image in a separate graphics program), and the subsequent copying and pasting of that frame's chroma layer (only) onto subsequent B&W frames, to create a rough version of the desired colorized result. Obviously, individual frames would have to be touched up to one degree or another, but this filter would allow the bulk of the coloring to be done by V-Dub, which would speed up the process immeasurably. smile.gif

If such an ability exists in a currently available V-Dub filter, I'd be grateful for a a point in the right direction, but if it doesn't exist yet-- well, this is one that SHOULD!! biggrin.gif

I now bow humbly to your code-writing expertise, and hope that **someone** can make this dream filter a reality!!

If you are interested in learning something new, you could try AviSynth. It has built in MergeChroma support. Find out more

Basicly AviSynth is a video editing tool that allows you to deal with multiple sources, and delivers video directly to Virtual Dub.

Well, I was in the midst of posting a message saying that I couldn't get MergeChroma to work , but I gave it some more thought, changed a couple of parameters, and by jove, it's doing exactly what I'd hoped... smile.gif

Let's see where **this** leads...!!
