Note that the latest VirtualDub's zip file is VirtualDub -1_4_101 ??The previous version was VirtualDub -1-4-10 though the built, size and date of released are same. Avery Lee's newlook page also claim that the latest version of VirtualDub has a capture/processing utility for 32-bit Windows platforms (98/NT/2000/XP) which in previous version didn't mention support for XP(which support only WDM driver instead of VFW).
As I mentioned earlier, no changes to the built except the file name only. Is it really working good with XP...??Any changes made for this latest version really...?? I really appreciate if now the VirtualDub was modified to support(no conflict) XP as good as it support Windows 98SE. Otherwise, people around the globe recomended using other video capturer that support and work best with WDM such as IUVCR and VirtualVCR, even no doubt...VirtualDub is the best.
Please let me know...if you know........... |

I've got WinXP, a Pinnacle Studio PCTVpro card and btwincap drivers v.5.3.2 installed. No problems using VDub v1.4.10 here so far ( at least no OS specific ones ). |

Emmm.....I'm wrong. The latest version is 1.4.10, but I downloaded it twice. That's why the file name add another #1 at the end. Yes, I try it already on XP. So far, it works well and no dropped frame for 10 minutes capture at 720x576. I'll try capturing movie for 1 hour later and tell you what its look like..... |

Well I have some problems with my capure card under XP. Its based on the BT chip 848. I find no problems when capturing regular broadcasts (other than an increase on CPU use that somehow reduces the amount/quality of filters that I can aply on the fly on capture time)
But... and there had to be one but... I enjoy capturing animation like The Simpsons, South Park, Futurama ,... and I capure them ant 15 or 16 fps (PAL) no need to capture at 25 and get the same image almost always twice. That is when my problem starts. On windows 98SE perfect and no more than one frame dropped every 4 or 5 minutes (about one frame in 4000 not notaceble) but on XP Instead of saying that it captures at 15 fps, it says it captures at 25 and drops NOT ten fps but more, so I get more dropped frames (some together not like 1 in 4000 but like 20 in 30 and the 10 a second, 5 dropped together....) and also audio vide async.
This is very strange, since the card on 98SE works perfet at any fps I select (14, 12.5, 15, 16, 25) and also works well on XP but only @ 25 FPS.
I've try capturing at 16.66667 fps so I grab two images and not capture the third one, wich should be perfect, just discard duplicated ones, but it doesnt work.
capture 12.5 fps seems to work fine, but when compresed the audio I get A/V async again thiis doesn't happen on 98SE.
I've captured with low res (384x288) , but nice quality (divx @ about 340 kbps bitrate looks like VHS quality (recorded reciently on a new unused tape)) more than 300 hours of animation, but since I *upgraded??* to XP I have to boot under 98SE to get a deccent animaton capture. Any Ideas?
Oh, I've tried VirtualDub-1_4_10__sync1_02 modification and only made things worst.

Tut_Ank, I believe that the problem might be attributed to your TV capture board WDM drivers OR - maybe more likely - to the capture process priority setting. However, I would suggest capturing @ 25fps and changing the frame rate later. Even though it does not seem obvious, capturing @ 15fps is more processing intensive than capturing @ 25fps, since the capture routine must apply rather sophisticated "filter" on the fly...
Under Win98, your capture process was probably getting as much processing time as possible (as Win98 is not a truly multitasking OS). However, under WinXP, the process will get only as much processing time as the internal OS scheduling routine will be told to. I haven't played with this too much, but IIRC there is a setting in the VirtualDub that assigns a certain "priority" to its process. Try setting it as high as you can and see what it does...
