(This isn't specifically a VirtualDub question, but maybe someone has some ideas...)
Using a BT878-based WinTV card, I end up capturing about 4 lines of VBI above the video area, including the line 21 "closed caption" data (it appears as a line of flickering dots at the top of the video). The video source is a satellite receiver, and I haven't had the problem with other capture devices, such as a Marvel G400.
I haven't been able to find anywhere to adjust video timings, and I'm not sure there is one, but is there any way to fix this besides cropping and resizing (which is fairly CPU intensive)? It would also be nice to tweek the front porch - I get about 12 black pixels on the left side.
This happens with all video software I've tried, and in all resolutions (it's just scaled down at lower than 640x480 res).
Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks! |

It figures... just after posting the message, I find a fix... DScaler lets you tweak the overscan and other video signal settings, and a ton of other stuff. It seems to work best if you adjust the video settings, then start virtualdub.
There's a "BTI8X8 Tweaker" option in virtualdub, which depends on files in the 2.X version of DScaler (2 revs old). It lets you set the various borders, as well as some AGC and colorburst options that could be useful for taping Macrovisioned source video.
Hope this helps someone...
