Has anyone used a ECS K7S5A Motherboard with a WinTV PCI card
and Virtual Dub to do video captures? I seem to be having a problem
with system lock ups when I try to configure the video settings in
Virtual Dub when trying to do a video capture.

Any Ideas or suggestions appreciated.

Thank You,

Vince

My main system is an Anthlon Xp 1600+ on an ECS K7S5A MOBO and I use a Hauppage WinTV GO model 404 TV cap card with a Brooktree/Connexant 479 chipset. It works fine for me under 2000 and XP. Are you using recent versions of all your drivers/software? What video card is installed?

My System is as follows:

ECS K7S5A MB
CPU: AMD XP1600
Memory: 256Mb PC133 SDRAM
Video: ATI XPERT 2000
Sound: ON board K7S5A Sound

A little more checking indicates that it gets locked up when trying to
do captures with the supplied WinTV GO 2000 Software also.
I have the latest Win TV Drivers and ATI Drivers installed!
WinTV GO PCI Card has a Brooktree 878 Chipset!

Just curious as to what Video Card you are using? Are
you using the onboard sound?  I seem to have my problem fixed if I use the DIB Draw option instead of overlay in the WinTV GO setup program!

Thanks,

Vince

Hi there, I've got the ECS K7S5A motherboard and use the Askey TView99 capture card.

My specs are:

1.8ghz Athlon XP cpu
512 DDR
40GB Seagate Barracuda HDD (7,200rpm)
GeForce2 200MX 64Mb DDR
Win 98SE

With the Askey card (BT484) I use the Vfw drivers in conjunction with Virtual Dub and it works great for me. Tried installing WDM drivers but couldn't really get them to work properly so stuck with the native drivers. Also using the onboard sound as well.

I was contemplating it being an overlay conflict with the video card. I have overlay disabled on mine while capturing. If your capture and video cards are separate it is probably just a good idea period.

This is a conflict with the ATI drivers -- I had the same problem when I swapped my NVIDIA TNT2 Pro with an ATI All-in-Wonder RADEON, except in my case the machine usually rebooted instead of locking up. Switching the overlay mode to DIBDraw is indeed a good idea since you may accidentally hit overlay while trying to capture.

I am not sure if the Video Card I have is a True ATI Manufactured card or a
licensed copy of an ATI. The Markings on the card say it is a Xpert 2000
Pro Ultra. I cannot find any reference to a "Ultra" version on ATI's website.
The driver that came with it is of a newer version than what is on ATI's
website for a Xpert 2000 Card. I tried to load the Xpert 2000 driver from
ATI's website and it said it was not compatible with my card. The driver
for my card is also called an Enhanced driver.

Since switching to DIB Draw I have not had any lockups. I was also able to
do a 10 minute capture at 640 X 480 resolution with no lockups or dropouts.

Thank You all for your comments!

Vince
