I have been using a USB capture device (Diamond VC 500) and Virtualdub to record video from a composite source (VHS) using the NTSC standard in a 4:3 aspect format.
Now, for some reason, the video files from the capture have black bars at the top and bottom and the picture is stretched and cropped. This wasn't happening before and the capture preview window looks normal.
I tried capturing video with the software that was included with the device and it renders correctly, but the way it renders avi is incompatible with Virtualdub so I can't use it. I even removed and re-installed Virtualdub but the same thing is happening.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In the Video menu at "Capture filter" you can choose the video format or standard (like for exemple NTSC_M).
After that (also in the Video menu) you can look at "Preview pin" what will be the frame rate, color and size (like 720 x 480). (If it shows empty values, then repeat clicking Video > Preview pin".)
Other settings that can play a role in this is: - Video > Cropping... (verify that all four values are set to '0' zero) - Video > Filter chain ... (at preference the 'Enable' should not be checked)
You say that the other software renders AVI that is incompatible with VirtualDub... Do you get error messages when opening these AVI's ? |
