Hello, first post here, dug around in search but couldn't really find something that matched my issue...I'm trying to capture raw uncompressed video from my PS3/360 using VD and the HuffYUV codec. The fps keeps jumping between the 60~ it should be at and somewhere around 25-35. My main concern is that this is happening before I even start recording, when I'm just previewing, and the software that comes with the card works fine, so I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware issue, and I don't really have any unnecessary processes running in the background.
I have no slowness issues with the card's stock software and use it as a viewer to play my games through even when I'm not recording. I don't really have any issues recording with it, it's just that it forces me to record into slightly lossy formats and I'd like to start off with raw video to get the best quality possible before I edit, and it doesn't seem to want to recognize the codec if I try to record to .avi.
Info I guess would be pertinent:
Capture card: Aver Media AverTV HD DVR Board: GA-X58-USB3 CPU: i7-950 RAM: 6GB Corsair Dominator C8 HDD: 1TB 7200rpm Caviar Black GPU: PNY GTX460 OS: Win7 Ultimate 64-bit VD Version: 1.9.11 HuffYUV Version: 2.1.1
Any advice appreciated, thanks in advance |

Set graphics card for performance if a geforce. The card is clocking down and causing this. Just a guess lol |

It's not unusual for preview to run slower than full frame rate, as it often uses a different path than capture. Start with test capture (F7), and if that doesn't run at full speed, reset the video compression to uncompressed/no compression and try again. That'll help determine whether your problem is disk or CPU.
Also, consider turning off the preview display. At HD sizes that will consume a LOT of CPU power. |

Hi!
I have a similar problem trying to capture PS2 games, wherein the preview/overlay will 'hang' for a short time every few seconds. It happens whether I'm recording or not (the recording actually has no dropped frames), but doesn't if I disable "stretch to video" for the preview, or lower the capture frame rate (which isn't really an option).
I get this problem only with an NTSC (i.e. 29.97 FPS) signal, though. With PAL, everything works perfectly well using the same capture device.
My CPU is a 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo. There are no CPU spikes or slowdowns during this, and VirtualDub takes around 25% CPU power at most during recording (to a lossless format).
...So, are those 10 extra frames really bringing my computer down? |
