Hi all
I have been very successfully using VirtualDub with a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card on a Windows XP machine (Dell 470) for the past couple of years. I've mainly been capturing PAL signal.
I have updated the PC to a Dell 490 and Windows 7, 64 bit. I am using VirtualDub version 1.9.11.
No matter what I try, I cannot capture with this new configuration. The capture screen shows the incoming video and audio is fine.
When I attempt to capture, I get the message "Unable to start video capture".
Further, the log reports: "CapDShow: Failed to build filter graph connect capture -> grabber".
I've tried the 64bit and 32 bit versions of VirtualDub, the latest ffdshow, a few versions of the Blackmagic drivers - but nothing looks like addressing this problem.
Really welcome your thoughts on how to get functioning again with the new setup.
Regards, Brett |

Can you try this version:
http://www.virtualdub.org/beta/VirtualDub-....10.1-test5.zip http://www.virtualdub.org/beta/VirtualDub-...test5-AMD64.zip http://www.virtualdub.org/beta/VirtualDub-....1-test5-src.7z
It doesn't have anything that would fix the problem, but it contains extra logging for when the failure occurs. Specifically, it prints out the specific error code and the list of formats that the capture pin supports. (You can right-click in the log to copy the log text to the clipboard.) I'm interested in this because I'm suspecting the possibility of a known format mismatch issue, FORMAT_VideoInfo vs. FORMAT_VideoInfo2. |

Hi there mate and thanks for the response.
Unpacked the version indicated and ran, same error message as before as expected, however the log file seems a little scant compared to what you indicated, contents included below. Do I need to do something else for a fuller dump into the log??

Er, that's definitely not what I expected. This means that the problem is in the audio path. Does it work if you turn off audio capture?
Also, any idea what audio format the Intensity is producing? You may be able to find it in Video > Capture Filter or one of the other driver dialogs. |

Sorry for the delay, I had quite a few recordings to do and substituted in an AverMedia 3D Capture Card. This worked quite well with VirtualDub in Windows 7.
Today with some spare time, I put the Blackmagic Intensity Pro card back in to test your audio tip further. I disabled audio capture and you're right, it worked fine.
Turning back on audio capture, I went into audio source and it listed PCM 48,000 Hz 16 bit. This is what I expected, but just as I was about to quit back, something hit me - it was not highlighted. I clicked to highlight and went back to attempt a capture. No problems at all; working perfectly!
Does this sound right? Not sure whether this helps or if I have done something foolish. |

No, this sounds right. What this means is there was an audio format selected on the device that VirtualDub couldn't process. I wonder if it was 5.1/7.1. |

Thanks for the response mate. Processed quite a few video clips with no problems now.
I have only used component video with RCA audio capture with the Blackmagic card that has only the one audio format.
It was as though Virtualdub for whatever reason (related to Win 7 and the Blackmagic drivers) could not auto select the audio format. All of course becoming fine when manually selected.
Anyway all good and thanks a million for your help as always. |
