I'm posting here because no one in the videohelp forums has a clue what I am asking! These 'wireless' SD cards have been around for years. How come they are not used for live streaming, remote capture applications? Is it something to do with DirectShow only supporting a very limited range of codecs or what? Is it beyond the scope of a driver to sort this out??

Aren't wireless SD cards used only to add wireless support to portable devices (like PDA)?

VirtualDub AIO (All-in-One installer for VirtualDub and plugins)
Codec Toolbox RS (A tool to read/change merit of codecs and many other things)
Input plugins for VirtualDub / ACM codecs / VFW codecs

I don't own one so I can't say exactly how they work, but yes, that is what they do. They give you a way to wirelessly access your sd device and move files around. I'm thinking "what a waste". Why don't they configure them to stream video/audio from the portable device's camera/microphone.

Once the wireless is connected, you can install an application in the PDA that send video/audio and another application in the PC to receive it.

These two applications (the one for the PC and the one for the PDA) must be compatible between themselves.
You can't expect things to work alone.

Don't ask me where to find it because I don't know but I think you will get more helpful responses in forum dedicated to the specific PDA that you have.

I haven't been able to find very much information about these cards, but from what I can tell, there are two strikes against them:

  • They don't seem to conform to a standard API like TWAIN or DirectShow. Instead, they have their own custom interface in code.
  • The wireless interface doesn't look like an active one -- it's more like a magical hard drive of holding, where from the standpoint of the camera files appear or disappear on the SD card as the wireless portion moves photos to and from the camera. That doesn't bode well for any sort of streaming idea.
