When I try to load an MPEG2 video w/MPEG1 layer2 audio I get the following error message at the very end of the load attempt: "The audio stream has a custom format that cannot be supported" and the loading is aborted. I've used G-Spot to determine that the audio is in fact MPEG1 layer2.
I've deleted and re-installed the latest version of VDub. Done the same with the K-lite codec pack. I appear to have an MPEG1 codec as part of ffdshow. The file plays (video and audio) just fine using VideoReDo (trial version).
I recently did a complete re-install of operating system (XP) and apps. What have I overlooked? Some obscure setting(s)? Do I need another coded? I'm stumped - suggestions please!

Which plugin You use to import?
What is container? MPEG-PS or MPEG-TS?
What is origin file? SVCD, DVD-Video, DVB/DVR, ...?

fccHandler's MPEG-2 plugin does not use external codecs to decoding MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio.

Any sample file?

Thanks for your response.

Fcchandler MPEG2 plugin.
MPEG-PS.
File is an MPEG2 generated by a program called HDTV to MPEG2.

I've been using VDub for about the last 6 months and never experienced this problem. It started happening only after a complete re-install of op system and apps.

G-Spot shows the audio portion to be MPEG1 layer2 with the following info: 0xc0:48000Hz 384 kb/s tot , Stereo. G-Spot tells me that the codec to play the clip is installed.

Am I correct in understanding from your response that FccHandler's MPEG2 plugin is capable of MPEG1 layer2 decoding?

How can I determine from the file if it might be corrupted?

Captured from DVHS tape using CapDVHS ( DVHS MPEG2 Transport Stream Capture v0.3.0.6).

Well... pardon my confusion...
"CapDVHS" with MPEG2 Transport Stream
&
"HDTV to MPEG2" with MPEG2
?
...What?

Are these two different 'things' ? wacko.gif

If 'yes', then why exactly do you need the second conversion - "HDTV to MPEG2" ?

If you believe you can't open Transport Stream in VirtualDub then you may wish to make sure you have read this: http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act...&f=4&t=18798&s=

Wasn't aware that TS file could be loaded into VDub.

That said, I've installed all the software/plugins/codecs recommended by the link given and the TS file will load but the video portion of the clip will not move past the first frame and the audio starts to play but within a few seconds settles into a low frequency pulsing sound.

????????????

Can you confirm you have tried to encode your video and got the distorted results?
Or have you just encountered the mentioned effect during an attempt to play the video in VirtualDub?

Didn't do that. However, recaptured the video after all else refused to work. Turns out the original capture was corrupted - strange though because it worked just fine in another app and G-Spot seemed to be just fine with it.

Working fine now.

Thanks to all for help and suggestions.
