If you 'Save image sequence' to produce a group of BPM files from a selection, then edit those BMPs, is there any way to then get the edited BMP files back into the video stream ? |

Yeah! Use any of video editor software (Premiere, Media Studio, After Effects, and so)
Just select all of your bitmaps, give duration for each frame, drag them to track and render. |

IIRC even VDub can do this. Just try to open the first bitmap and see what happens. |

So ...
This is the way they make lightsabers in Star-Wars movies !
Sorry, but I didn't know about this feature. What is the naming convention for BMP files ? |

The .BMP files merely have to be consecutively numbered in a consistent format, with the numbers appearing at the end of the filename. For example: IMAGE001.BMP, IMAGE002.BMP, IMAGE003.BMP.... Or: FILE6.BMP, FILE7.BMP, File8.BMP.... |
