Hello masters!
I'm a newbie and I've just started VDub last week, so I'm still having my first steps. I've downloaded 2 films (DivX format) and they were big! (755 MB each). I've tried to "cut" them so they could fit in a 700 MB normal CD. The films are ok, I can easily see them in any avi viewer. When I start working with them in VDub, a message always arrives:
"VDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source Avi file and will write the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 31958 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompose the "entire" audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder (bitrate 144.8 +- 27.2 kbps)"
When, in VDub, I try to put the film in a particular point (in the middle, for example), the sound and the video don't match.
My question is: 1- Are my films wrongly downloaded? (I don't think so because I can perfectly see them) 2- How can I solve my problem? 3- How do I decompose the "entire" audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file? 4- What's a bitrate encoder?
I know that all the "brains" who are reading my post were once newbies, so that's why I know that you'll help me.
Thanx everybody

The movies are ok, the sound is vbr (variable bitrate) audio and VDub cannot work with this format. You should use NanDub instead.

Thanks BaronVlad.
U're really a master!
I did it with nanDub and it worked, but... Now I've got another question. Is it possible to transform an AVI file of 750 MB into another of, let's say, 650? I believe I'd change the bitrate... But who am I? Just an Ignoranimus!
Thanks for everything.

That is what you'd have to do. It'll mean having to recompress the video, though. Unfortunately, that can mean an even further degradation in quality (on top of that caused by lowering the bitrate). Perhaps you're better off cutting the clip into two parts and storing them on two CDs instead of one. |

The movies are not really ok though are they? By their very nature they break the AVI specs. AVI does not support VBR audio period. Mileage will varry drastically. Avery/Phareon agrees and that is why he put in that warning etc. It is to save people from themselves. I know people are probably tired of hearing me say it. But if you ever plan on sharing your files. If you are concerned about compatability at all. Never use VBR MP3 it is just plain wrong. |
