Hi,

I'm having trouble with sound when using VirtualDub when I try to use it for MP4 files.

My problems are
A - When using MP4 files in VirtualDub, I cannot play audio and instead get this error at "http://imgur.com/0ygnTjZ"
B - When I take an MP4, do not try to play audio at all, crop a selection, save selection as an AVI, the sound is out of sync. Like the sound happens half a second later than it should.
Ultimately I try to use VirtualDub as part of a process to make .webm files from .mp4 recordings of me playing video games.

Before going into further detail, I will now try to answer the questions from http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act...t=ST&f=4&t=4409

1. Does it happen with all video files?
No, it happens primarily with MP4 files, which are the only other type of files I use VirtualDub for besides AVI. I think, but am not certain, I remember it happening to other file types too. Virtualdub can't even play .webm files, but I would like it to.

2. What version of VirtualDub and/or VirtualDubMod are you using? (The version number is in the top bar)
VirtualDub version 1.9.11, and I don't think I use VirtualDubMod at all.

3. If you are using VirtualDub, does it also happen if you are using VirtualDubMod? If you are using VirtualDubMod, does it also happen if you are using VirtualDub?
I don't use VirtualDubMod

4. If saving a file in VirtualDubMod, does it have the same problem if you save to AVI, OGM, or MKV?
Not Applicable since I don't use VirtualDubMod

5. Does it make any difference if you select a different Video/Audio codec as the compressor?
I don't know what that is.

6. Go to File -> File Information and copy all of the information into the post.
This is what I see "http://imgur.com/NzdcfCL"

7. When exactly does the error/problem occur? Opening the file? When you click the Save button? Partway through the save process? At the end of the save process?
Open file in VirtualDub = no problem.
Hit "Play" in VirtualDub = get error "http://imgur.com/0ygnTjZ"
I have to then resort to "Audio -> No Audio" to play a video, which means it plays without sound.

8. What is the EXACT error message? If it just brings up the debug dialog, then say so. Saying, "I got an error." means nothing to anyone.

9. What Operating system are you using?[/B]
Windows 7, 64bit, with service pack 1

I don't know what to do. These are the files I have in my VirtualDub directory.

Ultimately I try to use VirtualDub as part of a process to make .webm files from .mp4 recordings of me playing video games.

It took me a long painful time just to get VirtualDub to even play MP4 even without sound. All I do with VirtualDub is extract frames from videos (with filters like cropping & resizing, and at different frame rates) so I could make animated gifs out of them. But now I'm making .webm files, so that is what I primarily use VirtualDub in a process to make. I use VirtualDub to take a MP4, properly measure the exact timing/trim I want down to the seconds/frames, and use its cropping/resize filters to measure what I want. Then I use another program to make a webm of that mp4 using those measurements.
...well that's what I used to do. Now that I make .webm files with sound, what I is use VirtualDub to convert an MP4 to an AVI and while like to do is crop/resize an mp4 with an altered frame rate (like original video is 30fps but I save it as 20fps), then make a .webm out of that .avi file.
However when I do this, the sound is not synced correctly. It is like the sound appears to play perhaps half a secod after it should. Here are some examples of the resulting .webm files made this way.

What can I do to fix these problems with sound I'm having with VirtualDub? Thank you.

To open MP4 via VirtualDub, you have three possibilities:

1) FFMpeg inputdriver plugin
does not need additional decoders
> http://sourceforge.net/projects/virtualdub...peginputplugin/

2) QuickTime inputdriver plugin
> http://sourceforge.net/projects/fcchandler/files/

+ needs an H.264/AVC vfw decoder for video
> http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/files/

+ needs an AAC acm decoder for audio
> http://sourceforge.net/projects/fcchandler/files/

3) DirectShow inputdriver plugin
normally makes use of the Windows Foundation decoders available in Windows 7 and 8.x.

In the following thread, at page 3, you can find a little bit more info:

When you have installed one or more of these inputdriver plugins, then while in the Open Video File dialogbox of VirtualDub, you should first select (one single click) your videofile, and after that, at File types, you will have to select one of the plugins, before clicking OK.

Maybe you can best do a re-encoding of video- and or audio (into a new AVI), via the Video- and Audio-menu.
Set them to Full Processing Mode, and via Compression... select a compression-codec.
Concerning audio, you can also opt to NOT encode it (= uncompressed audio).
